Mass. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy dies at age 77 ' BOSTON – Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the liberal lion of the Senate and haunted bearer of the Camelot torch after two of his brothers fell to assassins' bullets, has died at his home in Hyannis Port after battling a brain tumor. He was 77.' Who titled the Kennedy clan as Camelot in any case? Camelot was the court of King Arthur - who was a Briton. The Kennedys were of Irish extract, weren't they?

JFK's wife coined the expression to describe the charisma of her husband in the few 'golden' years before his assassination. She'd recently seen the Broadway musical of that name. Of course, she was unaware, as was the world at large, that her husband's morals were far removed from those of a member of the Round Table. Sex-obsessed, he would bang anything with a backbone, even leaving important White House meetings it is said, for a quick knee-trembler in a cupboard and then returning.
Yes, of Irish extraction. The patriarch, Joseph Kennedy, was an appalling man. No friend of Britain or democracy for that matter, he was a rabid anti-semite, Hitler sympathiser and later close ally of the infamous senator McCarthy. Roosevelt appointed him US Ambasador to the UK in 1938 but his defeatist attitude/Hitler sympathies, came to a head in 1940 in our darkest hour: the Battle of Britain, when he gave the famous quote "Democracy is finished in England. It may be here." Roosevelt sacked him, scuppering any dreams he had of becoming president one day. Hence, his obsessive dedication from then on to occupy the White House via his children.

Mary Jo Kopechne was an American teacher, secretary and political campaign specialist who died in a car accident on Chappaquiddick Island while being driven by United States Senator Ted Kennedy...perhaps she is finally smiling!?

While I will mourn the loss of any American leader, and someone who has served as long as Sen. Kennedy did, I am not unpleased that he no longer sits in the hallowed halls of our Government.
However, my condolences and regrets go out to the Kennedy family, and those around them. The end of a dynasty? Maybe.

If you read any early account of the knights of the round table and whatnot - you'll find plenty of ribald escapades - puritans they were not!
I'm no fan of the Kennedy clan - perhaps Camelot was a rather fitting term after all.

Although I'm not a Democrat and I'm not so classless as to dance on someones grave like Skyline, it should be said that no one in the US Senate passed or was a part of passing more meaningful legislation in the United States of America then Teddy Kennedy. Get over 1776, skyline.

Swanman, I didn't denegrate Edward Kennedy's record for supporting worthwhile legislation, and am quite aware of his record in that respect. I was merely responding to the Camelot query and pointing out some historical facts. How dare you accuse me of dancing on someone's grave.
Your response is graceless. As was your absence of a simple thank you a while back when you asked for a piece of Jeff Beck tablature which I went to the trouble to locate and send to you.

I took it as offensive as well.
The pissy rant on Joseph Kennedy has zero relavance in the death of Ted Kennedy. Henry Ford and Prescott Bush were both Nazi Sympathizers. Prescott did business with them as a sitting Senator. That has no relavance here. You yourself live in the largest surveillance society on earth. What does that say about the English?
Two of Josephs sons were hero's in WW2 helping to free your sorry arses. One gave his life.
Your moral values are questionable as well. "In the Arthurian legend, Sir Lancelot (Lancelot du Lac, also Launcelot) is one of the Knights of the Round Table. He is typically considered to be one of the greatest and most trusted of King Arthur's knights and plays a part in many of Arthur's victories. He is perhaps most famous for his affair with Arthur's wife Guinevere."
To set the rest right, "Camelot, a Broadway musical about the court of King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table, opened in December 1960, just weeks after JFK's election. Starring Richard Burton and Julie Andrews, the popular show was a hit with the country and a favorite with President Kennedy. The enduring, mythic connection between an idealized King Arthur's Court and the Kennedy White House was spun by a media-savvy Jackie Kennedy shortly after JFK's assassination in November of 1963. On November 29, 1963, Jackie requested an interview with journalist and friend Theodore H. White and memorialized her husband while gilding his reputation with words from his favorite show tune, "Don't let it be forgot, that once there was a spot, for one brief shining moment that was known as Camelot." Mrs. Kennedy's recollections formed the basis of White's Life Magazine article titled "For President Kennedy: An Epilogue," which appeared on December 6, 1963."
To some of us Teddy Kennedy was an inspiration. Show some respect.

Moral Values of Ted Kennedy:
On July 19, 1969, Kennedy attended a party on Chappaquiddick Island in Massachusetts. At about 11:00 PM, he borrowed his chauffeur's keys to his Oldsmobile limousine and offered to give a ride home to Mary Jo Kopechne, a campaign worker. Leaving the island via an unlit bridge with no guard rail, Kennedy steered the car off the bridge, flipped, and into Poucha Pond.
He swam to shore and walked back to the party passing several houses and a fire station. Two friends then returned with him to the scene of the accident. According to their later testimony, they told him what he already knew - that he was required by law to immediately report the accident to the authorities.
Instead, Kennedy made his way to his hotel, called his lawyer, and went to sleep. Kennedy called the police the next morning and by then the wreck had already been discovered.
Before dying, Kopechne had scratched at the upholstered floor above her head in the upside-down car.
The Kennedy family began "calling in favors", ensuring that any inquiry would be contained. Her corpse was whisked out-of-state to her family before an autopsy could be conducted. Further details are uncertain, but after the accident, Kennedy says he repeatedly dove under the water trying to rescue Kopechne and he didn't call police because he was in a state of shock.
It is widely assumed Kennedy was drunk, and he held off calling police in hopes that his family could fix the problem overnight.
Since the accident, Kennedy's "political enemies" have referred to him as the distinguished Senator from Chappaquiddick.
He pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident, and was given a SUSPENDED SENTENCE OF TWO MONTHS.
I'm an Irishman, but I'm not at all happy with Teddy's moral values!

If that ain't dancing on someone's grave Sky, I dont know what is. Nothing wrong with Sam's post. But you took the opportunity to trounce upon the Kennedy name at an inappropriate time, in my view. It's a pretty commonly known fact that the Kennedy brothers had a problem with there morals. I'm sure that "Churchill" had many moral foilables too. Post the anti-Irish and anti-Kennedy BS on a political site. ( yeah: I'm half Irish) And I did , in fact, send you an IM thank you for the Beck Tab. Apparently you didnt get it. ( crys)

(Ecclesiastes 9:5) . . .For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten.

The best way to survive such a car accident, is to stay calm, wait until the the car is full with water, then open the door and swim to the surface. Mary Jo might not have known that.
Personally, I am neither friend nor foe to the Kennedys. Then again, I'm British
