I'm trying to insert a tie between notes. I figured out how to insert a slur, but even though the slur is between two notes that are the same, it is still playing both notes, rather than holding the first note for its count plus the count of the second note.
Thanks Noel. I watched the videos and I think I am starting to get the knack of entering notation.
I entered notation for a folk song into a new BiaB file, and added chords (just copied out of a book). Apparently I entered the tune into the "piano" track. I have tried several styles out, but none of them are playing the tune I entered, just the chords. This would be alright, but when I go to "lead sheet" view and play the song, the played note is not turned red, nor is there a red box put around the current bar.
So when I try to play along along with accompaniment I get mixed up (I'm a beginner on the instrument I'm playing though I learned to read music years ago). The red notes make it much easier to play the notes at the right time.
Maybe the red notes only work for "soloist" track? How can I copy the notes from the piano track to the soloist track?
EDIT to add: I still can't figure out how to copy the notes. I can't figure out how to selected the song in notation mode. Every time I accidentally click somewhere, or my pug steps on the keyboard, a ghastly looking note with 12 ledger lines appears in some random place.
BUT I noticed that the current bar is outlined in BLUE (not red as before), which is enough of a clue for me to play along in a stumbling fashion. And when I finally played "Carrickfergus" to a pretty Celtic harp accompaniment, it was actually starting to sound a bit like music, and was quite a soothing experience (which is good because it wasn't soothing at all to get to that point!)
While BIAB notation seems very confusing when one starts out learning it, I promise you that when you get the knack, you'll look back and wonder why it seemed so hard.
Firstly...
Notation needs to be added on either the Melody track or the Soloist track.
Any notation entered on any other track will be overwritten when BIAB generates an accompaniment. (This is because all tracks EXCEPT the Melody or Soloists tracks are reserved by BIAB for accompaniment.)
Secondly...
To copy your notation from the Piano track to the Melody track, have a look at the image below and follow numbers 1 to 5 to transfer midi information from the Piano track to the Melody track. (This may or may not work depending on whether or not what you've written has been overwritten by song generation. If it has been overwritten, it will be necessary to enter the notation again, manually, on the Melody or Soloist track.)
Thank you Noel. I succeeded in copying the song into the melody track. Played notes still not tuning red on lead sheet view. But the played note does turn red in notation view.
It is strange because for some of the bars, in some songs, the played note DOES turn red in lead sheet or fake book view.
Is it some random computer glitch, or something to do with the particular accompaniment? The square boxes in the menu bar with a G, P, etc, are presumably to allow you to select which part's music you want displayed. But there is no M or S box for melody or soloist.
