The answer is probably simple, but I've spent way too much time trying to figure it out. How do you get a simple single-note melody (no triads, etc) with a real instrument ...not midi?

I create a chord progression, then individually place the notes in the melody using the notation window. If I select any real track for the melody track (or whichever track is playing the melody) BIAB generates a much more complicated melody. This happens whether I select the real track before inputting the notes or after. If I freeze the track, BIAB just plays the complicated melody over the simple one.

Basically, I just want a chord progression using Real Band styles with a simple single-note melody that sounds like a "real" hollow-body jazz guitar. Any tips?

I am using BIAB 2015 PlusPak

It figures that as soon as I post my question, I finally stumble across a similar post. It looks like you can only use midi for the melody I'm looking for. I can get Hi-Q midi on the BIAB track, but it still sounds pretty electronic. Any tips on how to get a more natural sounding midi guitar track?

I'll let the guitarists answer the last question.

Yes, you discovered correctly that RealTracks are not used for individual melody lines. Some solution for this has been requested frequently in the Wishlist Forum here, but I see difficulties implementing the request. Perhaps PG Music will find a way, or provide something else. In the meantime, I use MIDI. We can talk about making that sound better.

Thanks for verifying ...I'll stop beating my head against the wall. It looks like I will just use the Hi-Q midi until I get a better feel for working with BiaB. I'm sure there are ways to use other VSTs or import another track (perhaps one I record), but all of that is a little out of my reach until I get a better knowledge base.

.

Are you a guitarist? I am. It is usually the people who play a particular instrument that are most acute about what they want the corresponding MIDI instrument to deliver. I often find that I can find an acceptable MIDI version for most instruments, but not for guitar.

The next thing to try is the HI-Q instruments, as you have done. BiaB can work with a number of 3d-party synthesizers, and the "Hi_Q" set of instruments is one. (The actual name of the synth is "Sample Tank")
You may find one of these that does the job.

If not, the best option will probably be to record the guitar yourself. with a mike.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am a guitarist. The Hi-Q does sound a lot better than standard midi, but with the BiaB version I amusing, I only have one option for jazz guitar. I will do a little searching to see what else I can find, but to be honest, I can probably live with the BiaB midi melody track.

I use the backing track to learn both rhythm and lead. Once I get comfortable with the lead, I can mute that and just use the rhythm to noodle around a bit.
