I just installed my new Tascam US-144 and when I created a test song in Real Band, the playback was very slow and distorted. It returned to normal when I disconnected the US-144. Using Win XP, SP-3. Any thoughts on where I might start troubleshooting? Had not attempted to record via the vocal mic attached, this was simply playback of a short song using RTs.

Many thanks from a newbie.

Latency settings (I have the US-122 not the 144 but the situation is the same).

Check your latency settings

Well, folks, the whole scenario has changed: my old computer died, reinforcing my growing desire to upgrade. Have purchased a new machine with a fast processor, etc.. I'll pick it up tomorrow and after I get everything set up, will see if I continue to have problems. Fortunately, the old machine's hard drive was intact and the tech was able to recover all my old stuff (99% was previously backed up) and copy it onto DVDs.

Will keep you posted, and thanks for your responses.

Don't throw the old HDD out with the new computer. You can still use it

Thanks, Sam - still have the old computer and it's back running thanks to a new (used) power supply, but am slowly slogging through to figure out how to get things to work on the new machine (new one is Vista Home Premium OSX). Am supposed to be due a free upgrade to Windows 7 when it comes out, so I may wait till then to try to do very much.

don't see why you should mot realize the same with vista 32 and when the time. comes upgrade to windows 7

i especially like the the tactile feel of the used to be knobs

Hi All,

I just bought a new laptop to dedicate to my music preparation and on-stage work (right now I carry about 500 midi files to a job). I then bought BIAB 2010, with Real Band (RB). All my files are midi, but I hope to make files now with midi and audio/real tracks so I can use my SD-20 module for the midi and run the audio directly into my mixer on stage. I have never done audio/real track work! I bought a TASCAM 122mkII interface to split the midi and audio out before running them into the SD-20 (then mixer) and mixer respectively. I also have the newest Forte Dxi plug-in which I use when I am not using the SD-20. All the drivers are loaded into the new 64-bit Vista OS on the new Sony computer. Needless to add I am now indigent after buying all this new stuff!

After struggling with setting up the system for the first time today I have some questions I hope that one or more of you may have encountered and resolved. I would appreciate your advice on the three questions below. I hope they are clear. I found it difficult to write the questions.

1. After starting the BIAB and Real Tracks the programs crashed whenever I made any USB connecction or headphone jack outlet connection changes. Is is best to set up all these connections before I start-up the PG Music programs and then not make any changes in these connections until I turn off the PG Music programs?

2. When I select the TASCAM interface driver for MIDI Output in BIAB and RB will I then get MIDI coming out of the interface MIDI Out connection line into my SD-20 and Audio from the interface's ASIO driver's audio/RCA Outs on the back of the interface (which I can hook up to my mixer)?

3. When I select the TASCAM interface driver for MIDI Output in BIAB and RB do I have to uncheck the "Re-Route MIDI playback to the default Dxi Synth" box in RB and change the "Default Dxi Synth" window to "none" AND similarly on BIAB, uncheck the "Use VST/DXI Synth" box AND return the "Synthesizer/Sound Card" setting above it to SD-20 ?

Thank you very much! Scott

Thanks, Sam!

Answer 1 confirms what I thought. As to Answer 3, before I had an interface and was just running the midi Out into my sound module, I was told that I had to uncheck the Dxi boxes to allow any midi sounds at all. I don't know yet if the interface hook up changes that.

I have a 64-bit OS now. So you have a 64-bit OS and, if so, what sound set or virtual sound do you use? I have a new Forte Dxi set up now but I don't like the fact that it does not have all the GM and GM2 patches that I have in my midi sound module (SD-20). There are some instruments and effects, like thunder, that it cannot play - but I am still unsure just how many of the patches it doesn't have or changes.

Thanks again. I have read many of your message on different threads and always found them helpful! Scott

Sorry, Scott. I can't help you there. I am running XP Pro on a 32 bit laptop. Maybe somebody else can help?
