I've noticed a recurring theme with the VSC synth supplied with BIAB - the standalone softsynth doesn't work in Vista and the DXi version doesn't work in 64 bit vista and Win7.
My question is to PG Music - are you guys considering sourcing an updated version of VSC, or some alternative softsynth, that will work in the 64 bit versions mentioned?
I know we can always buy the Forte but you've set the precedent of supplying a complimentary softsynth - I think it is not unreasonable to expect you to continue with this, but with one that works for future versions of windows.

Whilst you are waiting for any reply from PG Music I will just forward what I know on this subject
The Roland/Edirol VSC and VSC DXi was abandoned and therefore obsolete many years ago with the last updates around 2001 and 2003
There was a rumour in 2008 that Roland/Edirol were looking at a new softsynth but my contact says that nothing further has been heard or seen of a project and that the hardware side is the priority
With increasing amounts of Realtracks and Realdrums my use of a softsynth is reducing to those tempo's which cannot be done with them
However I still do love the flexibility and variation that midi and a very good softsynth gives.

G'day Jazzman, I was kinda hoping that wouldn't be the case...  While realtracks and Realdrums are a wonderful resource, the majority of my work needs the control only a MIDI synth can give. I don't need the vast array of effects and plugins available, just a decent sounding synth. My favourite is the Yamaha S-YXG50 softsynth - but this sucker won't work in even 32 bit vista the same way the VSC3 doesn't. Given that 64 bit Windows must be the way of the future I believe there is a need for an easy to use GM, GS or XG synth, one that doesn't NEED a VST host. Good sound without having to spend hours and hours just tweaking the synth and maybe plugins. I emphasize the good sound part, 'cos while m$ will undoubtedly continue to ship the GS wavetable synth we currently get, the Roland samples they bought/licenced or however they acquired it really aren't very good.

VSC will work in Vista 32 if you do the install as an administrator and set it for compatibility mode for Win XP.

We'll contact Roland to see if there has been any change, but my understanding is that the VSC doesn't run on 64 bit.

thanks for the update.
If they (Roland) don't have anything, do you think you would consider supplying an alternative that does work in 64 bit as part of your distro in the same way as the VSC now is?.
