Any suggestions for the best settings to get a nice jazz guitar sound from the real tracks? I find it difficult to get a sound that is not "sour" or "muddled" whether solos or rhythm and that sounds like many famous jazz guitarists.
You're unlikely to find any specific effect settings that will work for every jazz guitar track, but once you wrap your head around how to use EQ effectively, you'll be able to sculpts sounds to your liking and fit them in a mix on a track-by-track basis.
There are lots of great tutorials online, this EQ one has some great tips (#2 is great for finding and dealing with problematic frequencies):
As stated, try selected a DI (Direct Input) version of the track first. This has no effects.
Then, if you have BIAB realize you have a free version of Amplitube 3.
Use it on the tracks in Real Band (or your Daw) and select one of the jazz presets as a starting point, but fool around with different amps and effects of your own. See screenshot.
To load Amplitube for the first time in Real Band you have to go to the little VST triangle drop down and add it as a VST. It should be in your Steinberg>VST plugins folder in programsx86 in windows. Choose Amplitube3.dll
Finally, as Kent said, get a good EQ and spend some time just fiddling with the knobs and making your own presets.
You will be making gorgeous tones in no time.
