I'm new to BIAB and I'm having trouble with endings.

I'm using real tracks and for some reason I can't get the software to play the final chord, it always plays it as the same chord as the bar before.

For example if the chords finish with one bar each of B7 and Em, and I want the Em to be played as a final hit on beat 1 of that bar, it won't let me do it. The best I can get by moving the ending is that it plays the Em as a final hit but it actually sounds like B7, or it plays a full bar of Em and then does a final hit on beat 1 of the next bar.

What am I doing wrong? Is it to do with the limits of real tracks? I've tried messing around with the length of the ending in song settings but nothing seemed to work...

Thanks in advance for any responses.

When I have BB do weird things to the project I'm working on....such as giving me a messed up ending.... I simply insert about 12 measures to the end and create the ending I want using a hold for the final chord. It always works like I want when I edit the endings in this manner.

masis,

Welcome to the forums.

It sounds like the issue you are having is related to the automatic ending that is BIAB's default behaviour.

This default behaviour is that the last 4 bars of a song are assigned to the automatic ending: the first two of these bars are the ending and the last two allow time for the final sound to fade away. In this ending section, BIAB only accepts whatever chord is typed in the first bar of the 4-bar ending.

As an example, have a look at the image below...

I have created an 8-bar song. Bars 9-12 are reserved for BIAB to create its ending. The only chord that BIAB recognises in bars 9-12 is whatever chord is entered at the beginning of bar 9 (after that, BIAB goes into 'automatic pilot' mode to complete the song based on the chord in bar 9). If chords are entered in bars 10, 11 or 12, they will have no effect at all on what BIAB plays.

Regards,
Noel

To add those "extra bars" mentioned above, you'll need to "unfold" the song into one long "chorus". Then you can end it as you see fit. Edit/SongForm/Unfold.

You can also use the "Song Form" function within "Tools". After you have the main body of the song laid out, you can create a new section for your ending, give it a "letter" and let BIAB essentially "unfold" the song that way.

If if either of those also gives you new ending bars, type your chord name followed by a period. That should rest all instruments and preserve your ending.

That's one way to do it, but I believe that a Tag can also be used to add the extra bars.

Thanks for all the responses.

Noel96, that's really helpful, that explains why it's happening.

After trying the work arounds mentioned and doing some research on 'holds' I find if I just type the first and only chord within the four bar ending followed by three periods this creates the hold on the final chord that I want.

Thank you for all the help!
