I recently tried the peavey usb-p audio interface and immediately noticed I lost a lot of volume after running through my Yamaha 8 channel mixer as compared to the 1/8 jack setup. I ran usb out from the computer into the interface, then xlr out into two channels of the mixer.

Is this common with this setup?

Thanks,

Danny,

Did you check all the gain stages on your mixer? I've never had a problem with mine. Something isn't right with your setup.

Which mixer do you have?

Regards,

Bob

Thanks for the quick response Bob,

I have the Peavey 8 Channel Mixer. And I did not change anything including gain after I went with the interface and volume is significantly lower.

Is my cable hook-up correct?

USB into the interface
2 xlr to 1/4 inch from Interface into split channels of the mixer.

Thanks again,

Where are the main gain switches set? Did you try two different input channels? Cables?

Regards,

Bob

Although I did not move the gain when I switched from 1/8 jack out to mixer from usb out to interface to mixer I will check to see where they are set. But it seems it should not matter if the 1/8 jack was at the same setting. But I will double check.

Hey Danny,

I know this is a basic thing, but I cannot tell you how many times it has tripped me up.

As mentioned above, check you Mic and Line Levels. Some Mixers have all their 1/4 inserts on Line (Instrument) Level. If you have a quick and dirty patch to try another input on your mixer?

Without doing more research into the devices, I'm sure this will be a quick fix.

I remember one of my most embarrassing moments was working with a new Mixer that had two 1/4" Outs on the face of the Mixer. I must of spent and hour switching levels, devices, yelling curses, nothing was working. What it was, I wasn't used to how everything was laid out on the Mixer, and right below the Outputs was an AUX Send...can you guess which one my Out was connected to?

Mixers are fun.

Mikke,

There was no aux send button on these channels (4/5), and just FYI it was the same channels I was using before with the 1/8 supplied 1/4 in cables. Tomorrow I will try 7/8 and see if there is a difference.

Thanks again,

Hi Bob,

The gain on the 4/5 channels (the channels the interface feesd into) is up 25% more than any other channel. When I have some time this week I'll experiment with my other dual channel 7/8 and see what happens.

Thanks again,
