I don't think this is available. I would like to combine styles witihin the same tune, not build a new hybrid style but to add multple styles to a tune.
So my first 16 bars could be style xyz , substyle A, and the next 32 bars could be style abc, substyle b.

thanks in advance

If you are speaking of MIDI styles, just press F5 at each section and load the new style, and add the appropriate A or B substyle marker.

If you are speaking of Real Tracks, BIAB does not support more than one style on each instrument track per song at this time. You could use RealBand for that.

thanks, I do have RealBand, so I assume that in RealBand like in BIAB I would use F5 to assign a new style to a section? I'm still hazy about when to use BIAB and when to use RealBand.

thanks

Charles, I don't use RealBand (since I learned SONAR many years ago) but I believe the concept is the same in any sequencer: load each instrument in a separate track, and mute the parts you don't want, to create the effect of changing styles.

One of many big things about Real Band is you can even use different styles on the same track by highlighting say 4 bars on that track, generate, then highlight the next 4 bars using a different style, generate etc. This works for midi or Real Tracks/Drums. You could put a ton of different styles on just one track and you have 48 tracks to play with. Once you get familiar with this concept in RB, you'll never use Biab again for actual music creation except for maybe generating a midi soloist or harmony parts. Those you can save as a midi file and open in your RB project.
Biab is still very useful for other things like printing fake book charts, all the learning functions, etc.

yeah, it seems to me that I need to spend more time with RB. I have used the mute part approach before i.e. use BIAB to export multiple midi/audio per multiple styles and then use my DAW to selectively silence material , it would be an improvement in workflow if I could just do that in RB and then export to my DAW.

Sort of related question, if I purchase one of the newer Jazz RealStyles would those become available for use in RB. Also it is important for me to export as much as I can to midi as well but that would depend if a RealStyle came with RealCharts , correct ? I wish that was the default and including drums

thanks in advance

Hi,

Yes, any MIDI styles or RealTracks you have can be used by both Band-in-a-Box and RealBand. In RealBand, you open up the Preferences | Song Generation dialog and specify the folder locations for Band-in-a-Box, RealTracks, and Drums.

It is possible to include the RealCharts as a MIDI track when saving a MIDI file from Band-in-a-Box. There is a setting for this in the RealTracks preferences dialog. This is useful for being able to view the transcription in a sequencer.

sorry have not kept up with things, but not "RealStyles" ?

It seems to me that I may want to use RB for "song prototyping" and much because of being able to assign different styles to the various sections of the tune. There will come a point where the workflow will migrate to my favorite DAW, I would intend to do that via both midi and audio export. The midi assuming that its an accurate reflection of the audio for the tune would be so that I could decide on whether to use a VSTi on a particular patch rather than the audio. The drum part is particular would be one that I would be interested in having an accurate midi reflection of the "real audio" because I would generally prefer to use that midi output to drive my virtual drum kit i.e. BFD.

So in general having a midi accurate counterpart to any audio in a RealTrack would be a huge ++ for me and especially the drums.

RealCharts are currently only available on a number of RealTracks instruments, but not on RealDrums.
