Hi, I am relatively new to BIAB but I see it's very helpful when practicing or writting music. I have a problem though: I am trying to figure out how to write 'Shallow' by Lady Gaga in BIAB and have an issue with the first meassure with the third chord (G)... So, I am looking at sheets I bought online https://freshsheetmusic.com/lady-gaga-shallow/ and the song starts with Em7, then there's D/F# and followed by G which is rhythmically upstroke. So, how can I write this chord in BIAB so that it will be exactly according to the sheet music and sound as the original? Any help appreciated and welcome! Thanks!

Hi Sophie,
You just have to right click on your first measure and select Chord Settings. Then you select 4 and you enter G for your chord.
And that's all ! Christian

Hi, Sophie. You should probably post in this question in the Beginners Forum - the User Showcase is used for people to post completed songs. The "upstroke" is called a "push" in BiaB. Putting the caret symbol ^ in front of a chord indicates that you want to "push" the chord back 1/8th note, which is what you want the G chord to do. If you want a 16th note push, you would use two carets: ^^Notice that the D in the 4th bar is also pushed back by an 8th note. So the chords for the first 4 bars would be: Em7 D/F# | ^G | Cadd2 | G ^D |How well this works depends on the instruments in the style. Some work well with pushes, others... not so much. In some cases, you may find that it makes sense for the instruments not to push the beat, even if the vocal is syncopated.

Yes, I know, I will need to go through manuals and tutorials. Thanks for correcting me with upstroke/push  And, sorry for not posting in the right section.

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing.
