Hi Gang!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. As usual I missed the last half of the football game due to Triptophanitus!

Nevertheless, later, I came across this oldie but goodie (North Laurel Street) and dusted it off with a new quick mix! I found it fresh and new!

If you're not too busy, give it a listen...

Enjoy the rest of your holiday!

All the best,
Dave

Dave… I really enjoyed listening to this track.

Some of the things I liked were:
the tick-tock type of backdrop that you created with the drums and piano.
You had a very sharp and Stark guitar scream at the stop you created near the end..good choice there.
I liked your use of strings as an added element. You have a very good sense of use of strings!… I’ve heard them very often your work.

Thanks for sharing a good old one!

Dave, very nice tune.
Easy listen. Loved keys and guitar solo!

P.S. Not sure how open minded you are about your tunes.... Strings sit very well, but if it was my tune, I would use a more... synthetic and open sound/patch, more like space funk smile

Thank you for posting!

Hi Rustyspoon#

Thanks for the listen and constructive comments.

I'm hearing your suggestion but you should try it and let me here your concept. Not saying it's a bad idea, just never liked synths...

All the best,
Dave

Hi Tano!

Thanks for taking time out of your very busy schedule to listen and comment on this song.

I really believe the "tick-tock" of drums and piano is what really captures your attention.

The sudden guitar stop or (air breaks) was designed to stop one groove, and throw you into another!

It's really a lot of fun when you just let yourself go and let it take you for a fun ride!!!

Thanks again,
Dave

Mr. Brooks...

There is an incredible amount of drama in your song, "North Laurel Street", mostly as a result of the keening, anxious-sounding string arrangement. Combined with the stridently downbeat piano chording, and your searing, searching electric guitar solo, the song speaks with a voice of poignancy touched with a shade of the blues.

The title, "North Laurel Street", adds some mystery to the production. Is it where someone in the life of the songwriter/performer lives? No need to answer that; it's only a rhetorical question smile !!!

I enjoyed listening to the more reflective side of your musical talents, Mr. Brooks.

Turning inward,

LOREN

Hello Dave,

Pretty cool song, my fiend! I love that dissonant chord you use on the piano - not sure what it is, though. Nice work on the frets!

I was somewhat thinking along the lines of what Rustyspoon said regarding the strings. I'm not too fond of midis, either. But what might accomplish some of what he was saying without midis is to cut back on the high EQ a little bit. That might take some of the excessive bite from them. Just a thought. Regardless, I enjoyed your song as lot - pretty danged cool!

Alan

Hi LOREN!

Thanks for your kind words and listen!!!

Those who "know me" will tell you that I'm nothing more than a basket of sleeping cats waiting to be knocked over by a pack of wild dogs!!! =D

I just LOVE mixing motor oil with white milk and making it taste good...it's just my style. I do as much as possible to stay away from ideas that are already known. In the 60's, I remember listening to new songs on the radio and loving the bold, brave directions of the Artists. These were all signature sounds that will stand the test of time.

Example: That searching guitar solo is really a discarded solo pieced together from another song. I took a dry signal, and kissed it with a light touch of chorus. I was told I couldn't do it and make it work! =D

Now, regarding the "North Laurel Street" title: This was my favorite route to walk home coming from High School. (There is also a song entitled: "Take Me back (To My Old High School)" on my Soundcloud page, that also gives insight into my high School days.

https://soundcloud.com/davebrooksmusicfactory/take-me-back-to-my-old-high-school

NLS was a street that was a graded hill about 1 mile or less to my home. I loved walking this route because there were very little people or traffic at 3:30pm in the afternoon. Great think time!!!

Thanks again,
Dave

Hi Al-David!

Thanks for your listen!

If you find out what piano chord that's being played, please let me know because the only thing in this song played by me is the guitar solo, everything else is BIAB. I was amazed at how the software arrived at those piano chords, but after hearing them, I fell in love!!! =D

I will apologize for some of the foundations and frequencies in some of my songs simply because my ears (at 70) are not what they used to be. I agree the strings are a bit high and s/b better EQ'd. SOMEDAY!!! =D

(See: Bluage for explanation of this song>)

Thanks again for your listen,
Dave

High Bob!

Thanks for your listen!

I should have named this song: "The Clock" because of its rhythmic tick-tock feel.

Happy you enjoyed it!!!

All the best,
Dave

Hey Ya'll,

Those quirky chords you were asking about were written by me. I went back to the BIAB chord sheet.

They are Am13th and Am9th...

Thanks again,
Dave

Wow - I thoroughly enjoyed this smile It almost has a hip hop groove to it with that beat. I found it hits pretty hard, and that the instrument selection is perfect. All the instruments compliment one another really well.

Great work, and thanks for sharing!

ZUP "D"???

My Man!!! YOU GIT ME with all my insanities!!!

Thanks for the listen! I don't know about you, but after the guitar "air brakes" (before the groove near the end), I want to dance like the PO-PO looking to question me!!! =D

Thanks again, I trust all of the members of the "BIAB Tactical Music Squad" had a great Thanksgiving!!!

All the best,
Dave
