Booted computer and ran BIAB. Immediately got error messages saying ASIO driver was MAC and thus incompatible. BIAB then locked up so couldn’t access Audio Preferences. I killed BIAB with Task Manager, restarted BIAB then quickly performed “Return to Factory Settings” and everything cleared up.
This exact thing happened once before (2 weeks ago). Overall I've been running BIAB successfully nearly every day since this time last year.
System is 2018 Audiophile with all updates, W10, on high-end Lenovo ThinkPad.
Anyone else seen this?

Not sure what "ASIO driver was MAC" means. Can you elaborate or define MAC?
BIAB 2018 (and now 2019) defaults to using the WAS audio driver instead of the old MME. ASIO remains an option, as does MME. Some people cannot use the WAS driver; for others it's fine. Could that be what you are describing?

Thanks for your interest Matt - I don't understand the MAC terminology in the error message either. I've been using ASIO for about 9 months after WAS issues using SONAR/Cakewalk for recording and editing with a Scarlett interface.
Actually, my most critical use for BIAB as a guitarist is real-time backing tracks for restaurant-type gigs. The mostly "standards" tracks I've built for these gigs are predominately Real-Tracks so I don't care about latency. I really love BIAB for this live application as I can change speed or key or feel at a moment's notice to keep things fresh.
I hate having to deal with a computer issue while loading in and setting up so I'm thinking a lowest risk approach is simply go MME for BIAB. Am I missing anything?

If you don't care about latency and your audio interface doesn't require ASIO then there is no reason to use ASIO.

If you're doing gigs, I'd recommend rendering the BB RT files to finished waves. Then, simply use any good digital player to do your playback on the gig.
Look for the easiest, most snag free way to do your gigs. Using a computer and a DAW or BB running live is begging for trouble.
As a side..... I didn't think Macs used drivers like Windows does.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Right, I don't think Mac in this case refers to the Mac computer. But I still don't know what it means here.
Yes, as mentioned, you can always use the MME driver. Unless you are recording your keyboard along with a song, you'll be fine.

to Guitarhacker - yes, I understand the simplicity of MP3/Wav and I have these as my quick go-to "plan-B". I've been using BIAB live for about 10 years now and I find the flexibility (speed/key/feel) very useful and have had very little trouble. It probably helps that, as I've mentioned before, my gigs are restaurant-type gigs which are low stress and not so much on stage type performances. I really like that I can pop out of a song to speak to people then jump right back in as it always shows you where you are harmonically. Also sometimes musician friends sit-in and I can change a song to a key they prefer. I know of no other product that supports these sorts of things.

It happened again.
Shut down laptop at home with no issues, transported to restaurant for NYE gig, booted up fine and started BIAB. A few seconds after it started loading I got the error message, “Your driver uses a data format that the program doesn’t yet support”. BIAB finished loading but locked up if I tried to look at the Audio settings or build a song file. I deleted (actually renamed) interface.bbw and MySetup.DK. This worked, program loaded and executed fine. Gig started so I didn’t have time to investigate until later at home. My home setup uses an M-Audio C400 USB stereo interface but at gigs for simplicity I just use the laptop headphone out into my mixer. Back home I booted up and ran BIAB with no problems, but I noticed that my audio settings showed BIAB was using the WAS interface. When I had this problem a few weeks ago I changed from ASIO to MME (I’m using BIAB for playback only, don’t need low latency). No idea how that got changed back to WAS. Is it possible some midnight W10 update somehow changed the configuration back to WAS?
As I said above, I’ve been using BIAB live for many years with no problem. I’ve been running this laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad i7 with HDD and all the ram it will hold) for 18 months, running 2018 Audiophile since Jan 2018. I’ve done maybe 30 gigs this year with no hiccups.
This evening I tried to recreate the steps that led to the problem at the gig, but could not. However, when I was messing with the Audio / ASIO settings (setting it to interfaces I’m not using) I did manage to get that same “Your driver …” error message.
Curious ,,,

I'd recommend using the WAS driver. That stands for "Windows Audio System". That's the approved Microsoft designed low latency audio system for Windows. For Band-in-a-Box playback, low latency isn't an advantage anyway, things would work as well (or better) with 300ms latency as they would with 10ms latency. Also, make sure you have the 610 update, because that specifially improved some ASIO drivers. https://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm#610
