I've been an infrequent user of BIAB the past few years. I'm up-to-date and it seems like the File Open Dialog is the standard windows dialog. Seems to me there was (is?) a custom BIAB File Open Dialog with more columns and options. I think I had to choose to use it somewhere in Preferences.

I get this standard dialog when I choose Open from the menu, or hit F3, or hit Alt Shift F3 (should call up the "standard " dialog, which I get no matter what).

I've searched Preferences, Help, and did a full Return to Factory Settings. No help.

So - does this custom Open File Dialog exist? And can anyone tell me how to get it?

Thanks.

Using 2019 V609 have you looked at File > Open Special ... ?

Another choice maybe to look under File > Import.

I thought the same as Jim. It sounds like you might have been using "Open Song by Title"

Thanks for the response Jim and Noel. Open Song by Title opens the Song Picker. A great tool, but not what I'm recalling.

Here's two clues.

1 - In BIAB 2019, Open, F3 opens what I'll call the standard Windows file open dialog.

In Open Special, there is "Open (Using Standard Dialog)", Alt Shift F3. That opens the exact same dialog. Why did the programmers have two differently named and accessed operations do the same thing? I say because there should be a different dialog for F3, but it isn't invoked.

2 - I happen to have my User Guide from BIAB 2007. Here is a scan of the preferences page (p247) showing a check box for "Use custom filename dialog".

My recollection is that leaving it unchecked would bring up the standard Windows dialog with F3 (et al), and checking it would bring up the enhanced custom filename dialog.

I see no such check box in 2019's Preferences.

Unfortunately, there is no image of the custom dialog in the guide, but here is a description from the guide.

I think this was check box was there in 2018 - but not sure as I wasn't using it much. And I don't know how to open BIAB 2018 now that 2019 is installed. Is there a way?

This isn't a big deal, but I really preferred the custom dialog. If anyone has some insight, I'd like to hear it. Otherwise I may just call PG and see what I can find.

Thanks.

I agree that it's odd that the exact same dialog as described is opened by a more convoluted key combination. I can't understand the reason.
