It might be easier in Realband using the audio chord wizard ACW if you need the tempo map.

Using the BBvst https://youtu.be/NJIbRamqtdI?t=1606

Using Biab ACW

Hi David,

Welcome to the forum.

I agree with Pipeline. While it can be done in BIAB, it would be easier to do in Realband.

Here are a couple of threads from a little while ago about doing this in Realband. Both threads contain information in the discussion that will be useful for you.

Welcome, David,

Yes, you can import .mp3 (actually most audio formats) into BIAB but, as suggested, you will have much greater flexibility using RealBand. I do that often.

You will have fun while learning a lot from this very talented group of musicians who will never flame you for asking a question. They all hang their egos and credentials at the door upon entering but fully qualified to swap theory with us at a thousand paces.

David, Welcome also.

All good information above.

Additionally, after you get your song right in RealBand, you can then save it as a Band-In-A-Box song file and use it in BiaB.

Yes, all good information.

But....

If you want an answer to your actual question of using Biab with your MP3 audio and want to import your audio into Biab, there are several good reasons to do so and it's as easy in BIAB as in RealBand. More so if you're not familiar working in a DAW. BIAB automates many things for you that RealBand or a DAW does not when working with RealTracks.

First, generating RealTracks is much faster in Biab than using RealBand.
Second, it is a lot better to use the Biab Stylepicker to audition Styles and RealTracks than using the RealBand Stylepicker. They do not share all the same features. The Biab Stylepicker allows you to audition Styles playing your project Chord Sheet. This is very helpful and you will quickly find that a Style can sound and play dramatically different playing your song's chord progression and tempo rather than the STyle Demo. You can choose to play the entire Chord Chart or just the first four bars in order to generate faster renders and also play an ending. This is also helpful if you are searching for something particular for an unusual portion of your chart. Simply and temporarily replace the first 4 bars of your song with the chords you want to audition. Once you are satisfied with the RealTrack or Style for that section, replace the chords with the original first four chords of your song.

Many RealStyles have as many as five instruments in the Style. Using the Biab Stylepicker rather than the RealBand Stylepicker allows you to audition many styles quickly playing over your project chord sheet as stated earlier but this not only allows you to audition the Style but to also hear dozens of RealTracks playing over your Chord chart and hear exactly how they will sound in your project and not just as they do in the demo. You can literally hear dozens in just a few minutes.

Other benefits and features you may be unaware of start with Biab is not limited to eight channels and eight instrument. Rendering to audio, importing the audio back into your project and converting the audio to a Performance Track allows you to create sub-mixes of Styles and instruments allowing your project in Biab to consist of dozens of channels. This is similar to how analog and digital multitrack recorders function and is called Bouncing.

Each channel in the Biab mixer can have up to 10 instrument changes creating unique melodies, trade off's between soloists, rough panning, special effects and much more. This feature gives your Biab project a minimum of 70 instruments. Again, utilizing sub-mixes and bouncing, your project can have dozens more instruments than just the minimum of 70.

You will hear that Biab will create great crossfades between these instrument change outs and it does it automatically.

Biab has two Audio Chord Wizards and each offers benefits and features to use rather than the other in certain circumstances. Both will create a tempo map to sync Biab tracks with your audio and both will analyze and import the chords to your song.

If you need more than these features, then it's time to migrate to your DAW or RealBand.

David,

Here's a video that might help with ACW in BIAB...
