The Vsc Dxi synth won't work with it if it's 64 bit, unless you run in xp mode. Seems redundant. I'd like to know how this is going to shake out. Many of us, including me, are keeping an older system alive so I can batch render with the Dxi, but my Main system is a huge HP Vista 64 box.

Hi,

I've been using Win7 since the beta came out. BIAB works fine, the only issue I have is finding a current driver for my Tascam Fireone interface. But if you haven't tried Win 7, its SO much better than vista.

Take care,
Ed

just got my Win 7 upgrades from Amazon, in my case I plan to maintain a dual boot for a while i.e. Win XP Pro and Win 7 64 bit. I'm sure its going to be a painful few man days of porting all my tools and plugins but it seems it should be worth it , a large part of that will be jacking up my ram up to 8gb.

BTW, what do you all use as for ghosting ? i.e. me thinks I need to take the precaution of ghosting my C drive. I would prefer an open source free utility.

A program called EASEUS Partition Master 4 Home edition (free) will make a copy of a partition, sector by sector. Might work for you.

I use Acronis True Image. Not free, but has worked great on my computer.

As long as you have a Seagate (or I think Maxtor as Seagate also own Maxtor) hard drive somewhere on your system then you can use Seagate Discwizard available from Seagate web site. It is basically Acronis True Image 11 (I think) and is completely free of charge. Even if you only have a Seagate external attached then you qualify to use it. I have used it to backup and it works fine but I only have XP installed on my computers at the moment. With this software you can also make a boot-up disk so that you can restore a complete partition without booting into Windows which is obviously useful if you had a catastrophic crash and unable to boot up normally. Acronis True Image often recommended and the Seagate software offers all the essential functions of True Image.

Norton Ghost 15.0 is supposed to be released sometime in November. It is Win-7 compatible. (The User's guide for it is already downloadable from the Symantec website. I plan to wait for it rather than go with another solution.

actually I have used Acronis i.e. via the freebie that comes with Maxtors about a year or so ago. My new (new to me ) DAW are all Western Digital. A colleague here also endorses Acronis so I'll give it a look. thanks

Saved me more than once. Makes a mirror image. Restored in 15 minutes. I think I paid $30+ at Amazon.

I have used the Maxtor/Seagate/Acronis True Image freebee with XP and I agree it is awesome. Is their software now Windows7 compatible?

The just released Acronis True Image 2010 is Windows 7 compatible.

On a separate note, Acronis Disk Director 10 (a companion product for disk and partition management) will NOT be compatible with Windows 7 until version 11.
