Has anyone who has SampleTank 3 upgraded to SampleTank 4? Are you having issues accessing SampleTank 4 sounds?

I have my program on an SSD and my sounds on a separate hard drive. My SampleTank 3 and 4 sounds are in separate folders on the hard drive under an IK Multimedia directory. I've pointed SampleTank 4 to those specific folders as well as to the general IK Multimedia directory. While I can access SampleTank 3 sounds, I don't see any SampleTank 4 sounds.

All sound content downloads have been loaded and the program correctly authorizes and updates with current builds.

Seems there are lots of issues on the IK forums with this.

Anybody here have any thoughts?

Jeff

No issues here.

You are using current release 4.0.2 and it sounds like you know this but you did point to the ST 4 sounds library path(s), right?

I point to my paths

D:\Music\IK Libs\ST3 libs

D:\Music\IK Libs\ST4 libs

(I completely shortened paths because in a few cases the defaults even in ST 2 were bumping up against the 255 character path limits even an issue for Win 10. I suspect at some point IK will have to re-think DEFAULT paths and file names (I don't use defaults at all)

Double check: if ST3 was installed first, and it probably was, a lot of the ST4 IK SOUND CONTENT installers seem to pick up that OLD ST3 path. If you were just running the IK Installers and merrily clicking away doing the various repetitive steps adn not paying attention a lot of the sounds may have gotten installed, and commingled with ST3 sounds - that also means you have a ST3 and ST4 mess to clean up first.

ST 4 should have had a MASTER library installer - that unpacked and installed "discovered" zip files - the user should not have to manually unzip and install what 100+ files

FWIW Only current known issue (see IK forum) is any ST3 imported libs (like older ST2, Miro Phil. 1, etc.) will not be seen/loadable in ST 4. IK is aware and working that one

good luck
Larry

this may or may not be part of your issue?

there were INSTALL issues.

I had, and STILL have a few of the ST4 Acoustic Piano-part n.zip files (in my case it was parts 2, 3, 14, 15, and 16) and one or two downloaded guitar zip parts that would unzip but the "installer" said that part failed to install.

Yes, I re-downloaded a couple of them MULTIPLE times - it was always the same ones with issues.

However, note that all that the installer does is COPY the .pak files from the unzipped directory to the ....samples\Sampletank 4\"whatever instrument" (e.g., \Acoustic Pianos\...).

that is, the installer doesn't do anything with those files other than a direct copy to the same named directory as indicated in the unzipped file

Thanks Larry, I do appreciate your suggestions and help.

Due to my lousy internet speeds out here in the country, I got my copy of ST4 on a supplied USB so I wouldn't have to download over 75Gb of data.

The version on my USB stick is 4.02.

I've tried installing the sounds to various folders. Currently I have ST3 and ST4 sounds in separate folders under an IK Multimedia directory on my non-SSD drive as follows:

D:\IK Multimedia\SampleTank 3 and D:\IK Multimedia\SampleTank 4

I have also tried to configure it as:

D:\SampleTank 3 and D:\SampleTank 4

Still no joy....

Strangely enough, If I point ST4 to D:\IK Multimedia (which is where I moved my ST3 sounds years ago), I can pick up not only my ST3 sounds, but also imported sounds from ST2, ST2XL, eSoundsz Piano Collection, eSoundz Vocal Collection, and Omnisynth. All from previous installs.

I do have a question. I've noticed that on my install of the sounds over on the hard drive, the ST3 sounds are split between 2 folders: D:\IK Multimedia\Instruments and D:\IK Multimedia\Patterns. When I install the ST4 sounds, it places those two files together in a folder called SampleTank 4 (D:\IK Multimedia\Sampletank 4).

Is yours set up this way?

Jeff

Native ST4 only libs don't have any Patterns (essentially midi playback loops) so that's why installing just ST4 only libs wouldn't have any patterns to start a \Patterns folder.

Since I downloaded entire install and don't have the IK install media: the installs and sequence MIGHT be different? this won't help but:

1) I installed ST4 4.0.2 onto my D drive (D:\Music\IK MultiMedia\)

2) Installed just each ST4 Lib into D:\Music\IK libs\ST4 libs.

Since everything else had previously been installed D:\Music\IK libs\ST3 libs (all the add-ins and add-ons mainly from total studio 2 Max) I did NOT “re-install” them.

3) Then open ST4 application had it scan the sound folder "D:\Music\IK libs\ST4 libs" - it was all there I tested a few ST4 sounds in each category to make sure.

4) finally I added the ST3 sound path and had ST4 re-scan to add all my other sounds that are installed under the ST3 sound folders

Suggestion: Maybe uninstall ST4, clean out any lingering folders then start over. I'd also get on the IK forums and read how others had issues and resolved them, if still have issues - CONTACT IK Support

Good Luck
Larry

Thanks Larry. I did send a very detailed email to support with my exact install steps and directory and file locations. They never read it. They just responded back with a boilerplate: update the software, update the sounds.

I think my problem stems from trying to maintain all my previous installs (Sampletank 2, 2XL, SampleTank 3, OmniSynth, and two eSoundz add-ons). Several of these were converted from SampleTank 2 formatting to SampleTank 3 formatting. And then putting the sounds from each program on a separate drive from the application drive. Kind of a mess I know.

I did find that if I take the SampleTank 4 Instruments and the Samples and put them into separate folders under the previously installed Instruments and Samples folders, I can get it all the programs to work.

Still kind of a hodgepodge and I'm debating where to just delete the earlier SampleTank versions along with the eSoundz programs and go with just a clean install of SampleTank 4 with ST3 and ST4 sounds.

Don't know if this will work as I only have the ST4 update USB stick so maybe it won't install correctly if I delete ST3.

Thank for your help and guidance,

Jeff

I STILL HAVE everything installed ST 2.5 XL, ST3, older Total Studio 3, newer Total Studio 2 MAX, Miro 1& 2, Amplitube 3 & 4, all T-Racks all old one and new, ARC, actually the entire IK SW catalog without excpetion!

(yea I don't really need most, yes it it is very redundant, but I still use a LOT of 32-bit stuff so like having the older 32-bit libs and apps.

The whole mind set of "gotta have 64-bit" isn't really me or even needed - the bulk of non-music professional applications I own and use are STILL only 32 bit. Look at my (primary) system specs in sign. block - I'm hardly a Luddite neophyte.

All my IK SW (actually all my music SW) is installed in NON-default paths and still no issues with ST4 MAX. So I don't know what to say?

wish you luck bro (

Larry

IK really tried to help me a while back when ST4 kept crashing my Cubase Pro 11 DAW. ST4 worked great in several other DAWs but not Cubase for some reason. They said it was because I had used custom install paths, but that didn't explain why it worked elsewhere. Then we went through and re did the install and used all defaults and it still didn't work. Drove me crazy. Then I got a new computer, upgraded to Total Studio Max 3.5 and everything installed perfectly and worked great all over the place. So I have no idea why it would never work before. I just gave up and never used it in Cubase, since I had other DAWs it was no big deal but it messed with my OCD!

I have plenty of storage space on every drive installed, SSDs etc. so I started using defaults for everything as it made it easier when update and upgrade time comes. No need to try and remember where everything is!!

I really wish I had an a-ha idea for you to fix your problem. Sorry.

The libraries/instruments, which can add up to a massive GB count and appear in a [Sample Tank 4] folder and can easily be relocated by their management software. The library folder will also contain folders with the downloaded zip/rar installation/update files, which don't have to stay there. The program files themselves are definitely best left in their defaults.

Hey guys, please note that my post was from 3 years ago. This problem was solved long ago but do appreciate the continued interest. Perhaps the thread can solve a current ST user's problem.
