I'm having a discussion with some people and I am wondering if anyone here has the answer to our debate.

Some say that the quality of the real tracks is higher if they are read directly from the hard drive the BIAB/Real Band program comes on, as they are stored as wav files there, but they get converted to wma files if loaded on your computer. Others say that even if you purchase the audio file version, they all get converted when they are used by the BIAB or Real Band program.

When you install the program and it asks you if you want to save the files on your computer or read them from the hard drive, are they being changed if you choose to save them on your computer, or are they the same either way?

Hi Harry,

From a audio (i.e. Realtrack) perspective, BIAB comes in two sound qualities. What quality you have depends entirely on the which version of the product you purchased.

If you purchased the Audiophile edition (that is, the top of the range), then the USB drive that it is shipped on will contain the WAV files for audio. If you purchased any other package, the USB drive will contain WMA files.

The Audiophile version also allows the user to install a WMA-file version of BIAB onto a computer's hard drive. So if you did buy the Audiophile software, make sure that you set BIAB's Realtrack and Realdrum preferences to point to the USB drive when you are building the final audio product.

If you purchase was either ProPak, MegaPak or ULtraPak, and you installed that package on your computer, then the audio files are WMA on both the external and internal installations.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Noel

Noel gave you the answer. You have several choices during installation to give you the most flexibility.

About the ‘converting’, that’s actually backwards. It’s the WMA files that are first uncompressed as needed when used by BIAB. The WAV files are the form BIAB needs.

If you want to know a little more about how BIAB accomplishes this, read my sticky post, the first in the Tips and Tricks Forum.
