Hello Folks,
I've not posted a new track in a while. A couple of collaborations on this forum, thanks forum folk, and several on another have kept me busy PLUS I've come out of retirement for a three or four month stint.
This track came from an idea in January. I used BIAB for drums, organ, treated piano and treated organ.
The drums needed a little EQing to quieten a VERY loud high hat. I did look for another RD but the groove was spot on so I worked on it.
The straight organ is a background RT and works a treat.
The treated piano was a soloist RT that I ran through various filters to render it as more bleeps and clicks than a recognizable piano.
The treated organ was a Bossanova soloist that has had some heavy saturation and EQ done to it.
The added bleepy thing is a track supplied by a Tenori On - with some sweeping filters added.
The guitar solos - resplendent with LOTS of effects comes from James Dodd of Wales.
Bass is me - Vantage through a Behri BDI21
Synthy sounds are guitar through a Mel9 or a Yamaha FX500
Ragged guitars are Mustang into a Marshall Superlead.
Vocals are coming but the singer has contracted a bit of Larry G so time & patience are needed by me - hence the fill in post.
It's a fairly standard Space Rock, (Hawkwind et al), sort of affair.
Comments on any & everything are welcome.

WHOOOPS
I thought something was wrong when I listened to this earlier today. I listened again & checked the project - when sliding over to render I pushed a panning knob to centre which put a main chorus guitar up the middle and off balance. I've tidied that up but the balance isn't quite right and YES there's pick click at 1.31 that I'll have to excise.
I've fixed that and have lightened the texture a little in the final section as I begin to come to grips with the remix that'll be needed for the vocals...

love that spacey, mysterious intro

good solid rocker

drums are kicking in a good space

I really like when the bass cuts thru clearly (I played bass for a few years in bar bands)

nice guitar lead

good mix, can't wait to hear it vocals

I like this bed. Great sound and mix.

Like Kenny I can't wait to hear it with vox.

If it is not an instrumental you might want to chop up (or chop out) some of the "thick" stuff during the vocals and only have it come in at certain points in the chorus as layers, but I am sure you already know that. (I mean strip the verses down to get ready for a crunchy chorus, but not crunchy all the way through--crunchy in places and steps.)

Anyway, this sounds great man.

Nice sounding backing tracks...
When do you think your vocalist will be well enough to help you finish this piece?

Thanks Kenny,
I'm set to revisit the relative rhythm section versus guitar levels once the vocal is in. I do hope to have the bass a little clearer.

Thanks David,
the buses are set up and ready to adjust when the vocal shows.
It'll definitely need some fat & some mud reduced to sit the vocal in based on previous experience with the fellow. It'll be a battle between loud guitars and synthy things I suppose but the vocal will determine taht as you've noted. Good ears as always.

Thanks Jim,
I'm not certain about the timing as the fellow teaches music in a school so will need to bring back his voice for work but also to look after it for a while so that it survives the term.

Thanks Scott,
As usual with me - the two parts were developed separately then welded together. The two bar move to E was a mistake in the 1st draft that I liked so kept it.
The drums are big - just a tiny bit of added EQ and a few hefty chunks of subtractive EQ seemed to make it boom. That and some help from :tape saturation" using the VST - PSP Vintage Warmer 2.

Very good track. I like the style of music and I think it is a good mix.

I'm glad that you wrote that "vocals are coming", because after the guitar solo I felt something was missing.
I hope you will re-post it when the song is finished.

Thanks for sharing!

Will,
Thanks for your kind comments.
I'll certainly update when the vocals are in. I'm rather keen to hear them myself.

Lots of great stuff happening here! Loved that intro! This has such a huge sound (70's Heavy Metal power chord stuff with modern twists). Lyrics/vocals will be anticipated by many of us who have listened! Thanks, Torrey

Great rocker with interesting chording, reminds me of Oasis and some other Brit artists from the 90's. I'll be waiting for the vocal version.

Ray,
More of Space Punk to me than Space Rock smile I believe you have done excellent work in arranging this and creating unique sound. Bass playing is awesome! It grasped attention at about 0:30, and held pretty well through whole tune, especially got interesting at about 3:34 till the end. Heavy fxed guitars suit this tune well! The digi chirping on intro and outro was a success.

As far as suggestions, To me, the ending notes are a bit lonely smile Maybe continue with those digi chirping that started about 3:55 to those final notes so they have "friends" till they die?

Thank you for sharing!

Misha.

What a tune! The guitars absolutely soar and the tune has so much energy behind it. I can imagine this sounding absolutely unreal in a live setting. Some of those licks and progressions are deadly. It is hard to listen without feeling pumped.

You should be proud of this one! Thanks for sharing smile

A real wall of sound going on... Good quality sound too.
Everyone else has said about leaving some space for vocals, but you obviously know what you're doing there... Great so far.
Love the sustained guitar at the end too.

It's only my madness that stops me from going insane.
