I've been hunting around for a sampled steel pan drum vst to use in Reaper (that's the DAW I use) and it seems like this guy named Ben Smith (Glooper) had a friend who played and he sampled the guy playing and made a VST that used to be available out there on the web ... and eventually it was hosted on this Kara-Moon site for musicians. Which appears to be in a dysfunctional state. I don't know if someone broke it and they're planning to put it back together, or if they're just letting it fall apart. Seems like it's been around a while and maybe they've moved on to better things.
At any rate, if anyone knows anything about that or some steel drum sample based VSTi ... let me know.
I found some sfz files but I haven't tried to figure out how to put that all together. I have some reading to do.
I did use the Steel Drum midi patch in BIAB, and it sounds better that a midi plugin I'd used in Reaper, but it is ... well it's lacking something. That certain je ne se quois, as they say.

Kara-Moon recently changed servers but it has been down for a while. I assume it will be up and running soon.
Google/Bing steel drum vsti and you will find some.

Oh I've been googling up a storm. This sounds like it would be the best one for under $100. (It's actually free, too) There's one for $200 that sounds fantastic. Other than that it's loops and samples.
