I take this as some sort of joke. In the words of John McEnroe “You cannot be serious”. Never mind, Studio One goes to the bin. It was free but I was looking forward to it so I could learn more.
The first and only thing I learnt is that my existing VSTs are useless to me unless I pay through the nose for the privilege of using what I already own.

This is exactly the reason I steer people away from Studio One. Too many other free options like Tracktion 7 and Cakewalk that don’t restrict your use of what you have already paid for

This is exactly the reason I steer people away from Studio One. Too many other free options like Tracktion 7 and Cakewalk that don’t restrict your use of what you have already paid for It should be noted that only the Studio One Artist has this limitation, and a big limitation it is! The Pro versions do allow VSTs to be used. A lot of entry level DAWs do not have this limitation. I don't understand why the Artist has it. A very poor choice and one that gives Studio One a bad reputation.

Studio One Artist does not support VST plugins natively; however, you can buy the VST plugin support addon for $80, which then allows Artist to work with VST/VSTi plugins. But I agree with Mario that this kind of thing is what gives it a bad name. When free audio programs support VST technology, why not make it available in the Artist Version. So you can get Studio One Artist with VST support for $180 ($100 for Artist + $80 for Add-in). But why not include VST support in the base product. There's already a ton of differences between Artist and Pro; I would think that not including VST causes a lot of folks to take a pass. But were it included, you might find yourself wanting the Pro version upgrade after working with Artist for awhile (and then they sell more units). Here are the features you don't get in Artist that you do get in Pro: Features- Project page (Mastering, DDP, Red Book CD burning, digital release)

Presonus forum does not like to be reminded of the fact, they removed my posts on this. I guess that was that I said they reduced their product to a toy. I think they found that remark offensive or maybe it was that I said I binned the product due to the crippling feature. Either way the posts seem to be gone.
That was the strongest language I used but not the strongest I was thinking.

I currently use Studio One Artist and think it's a great program, but I agree not allowing third party VSTs is a major drawback. I use it mostly for performance tracks and I'm able to get by with the standard plugins provided without any issues. If I want to do some recording, I'll probably have to look at getting the VST support addon or look at switching to another DAW.
