How cool is this? Jeff Bezos started a "club" to generate interest in space. The first idea is to receive a postcard from space. +++ Details HERE +++ NOTE: You DON'T have to join the club to participate.

Wow Jim! This is really cool! I just heard today about he and others privately funding space activities. He is also looking to colonize the moon; and is schedule to start some of that within 5 years.
It's exciting times, AGAIN. I love this kind of thing as it tends to focus on what marvelous things humans CAN do.
Thanks for sharing. I was unaware of this.

Well, if you were a Ham Radio operator, you could talk to space and get postcards from there too. The ISS does both.
(Not that I've ever done either)

You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

(Not that I've ever done either) Yes. QSL cards come from around the world and space too. As a Ham, you also have space satellites for 'ham access'. Hams can also learn how to and then get to bounce signals off the moon back to earth and much more. As an amateur radio operator I learned how to; build a kit that removed vocals from records back in the late 1970's early 1980's before commercial units were widely available or affordable and way prior to the software options available now. I learned how to modify a ordinary baby monitor (not the video monitors in use today, but an audio baby monitor) into a composite video transmitter with a range about 1/4-1/2 mile. How to convert an ordinary VCR or DVD into a audio/video transmitter. How to design and build super hi-gain transmitters normally used for surveillance. (this was not directly related to Amateur Radio). How to service and repair Ham equipment and CB radios. How to capture and decode Weather satellite data. I learned how to capture and decode FM radio station subcarrier frequencies. In the past, clients such as Muzak used these FM subcarriers to transmit their programming wirelessly to commercial decoder boxes installed in retail businesses for background music. This led to learning how to tap a dish satellite signal and break out sideband and subcarrier signals. I also enjoyed broadcasting and more so, receiving short wave amateur and commercial radio.

Very cool, Charlie, are you still active?
I also have my amateur radio licence (VA3KAB), although I haven’t been active for a couple of years.

Not very active for the last few years although I just renewed my license this month (KV4AV) and with all of the summer tourists that will be coming, may get back on 2 meters. The antenna farm is down since all our recent hurricanes.

KW4BT.
I mostly play around on 2 meters and 70cm with an occasional bout on 220. My HF rig was fun, but I think it needs repair. It's a side line back burner hobby for me.
