...Am I mistaken and BIAB doesn’t allow the analysis of a vocal melody so it can generate a solo close to the melody?

BiaB can generate solos but these are essentially pre-recorded musical passages. The solo is not able to track your own melody, however, it can track the chords that are used by your melody.
First of all, RealTracks will not respect the melody at all. They are pre-recorded phrases and don't know a thing about the melody being played. They'll match the chord progression, but not the melody.
So, assuming you are planning on using MIDI for your solo, there are a few things you can select. There is a Soloist setting called "Melody Influences Solo". You select the method you want from the list:
Pop/simple melodies (default)
Bebop/complex melodies
First/Last Notes match melody
Similar notes used
Density & Rhythm match
Rhythm and notes match
Custom settings (you can look in the user manual on around page 308 to see the additional custom settings)
You then specify a strength percentage to indicate how much of those things actually happen. The strength (%) setting allows you to control how much the solo will be influenced by the melody.
