Anyone has any suggestions on what is a good way to make videos of myself playing my guitar along with Band-in-a-Box?

I can plug my guitar amp into the PC and record myself playing along with my Band (in the Box!)
But now I want to also video tape my songs for posting on YouTube etc...

Just buying a Videocam is enough? i.e. would the mic on the cam capture an OK enough sound with music coming out of the PC speakers for the BIB part and my guitar through my amp? Or what else? i.e. can the music be directly inputted into the video cam?

I would welcome suggestions and other more professional solutions as well.

Thanks in advance.

First, get a tripod. You can't hold the geeta AND the camera unless you have more than one pair of hands

Secondly, it depends on what you have for a vidcam. There are films of me on YouTube that were taken by an ex g/f which have sound. She just used a modern digital photocamera that can also record film and sound. A friend of mine and I here often video ourselves at gigs for our own purposes which records sound. That too can be digitalised and uploaded to YouTube.

Vidcams these days come with software that enable you to do what you want.

I just bought a tripod (LOL Thanks WienSam, of course!) and a Canon FS20 Camcorder (not HD) and I will try it out and see how it sounds. I am going to play BIB out on my regular speakers and glay my "geeta" out of the amp and hopefully the combined sound over the air will sound decent LOL.

This cam also has a mic input. Does anyone use a mixer to combine all the sounds together and intput the sound into the camera via the Mic jack?

Dick

You should be able to patch the audio into the camcorder with the mike input start with a low volume setting and test it, so as not to overdrive it as many mike inputs have a preamp in them. Do a couple takes then get the sound right and let 'er rip!

Thank you Robh,
But how do I combine the sound from the PC with that of the guitar's so I can both input into the cam's mic input? (all live of course!)

You need speakers for your PC. Then give it a few tries to check the balance. Effectively, you will be filming yourself playing live with a virtual band. Go on - give it a try!

The first time I ever did that was on Pgmusic forum. I put my digicam on a tripod, turned on my bass, hit play on PTW and sang into the little camera mic. It came out surprisingly well. I thought it would be horrible. It was a little noisy because of the open air sound. But came out good. No FX were used.

Later I went back and sync'd up the recording with my vocal to the perfomance to get a studio sound. Wish I hadn't done that now. And sadly I didn't even keep a backup of the first cut. Ah well. Such is life.

Well, after much research online, I bought a behringer Mixer (1204FX) as well as an Audio Interface (Tascam US-144 MKii). I hooked up my amp output and the BIAB output into the Mixer and sent the whole thing into the Camcorder's MIC input jack... Haven't recorder much yet, but some of the test results sound pretty awsome.

I found a great website that has extensive (and I mean extensive) detailed information on home studios. For anyone interested, the URL is: http://www.tweakheadz.com/guide.htm

I highly recommend it. I wish I had seen it sooner....
