Twenty-Four and a Half

I put this together fairly early in my use of BIAB to "celebrate" the 24 & 1/2th birthday of my then fiancee. It uses two styles and it is a 24 bar "progression" with an extra "half-bar" of 2/4.

Mostly (besides just hoping you might enjoy listening) it's to demonstrate that the midi melodist is quite capable of creating a coherent melody line, as some have questioned. I did nothing to this piano melody, save run it through hard-synth.

Beyond that, this is a re-master using the MAudio Loudness meter to set LUFs accordng to the advice given elsewhere (by Tuenis, I think...but could be wrong) to a new member of the forum. I've not used this function before, so any ears that might have a comment pro or con on what this sounds like on your set-up, I'd appreciate it. The mix isn't very good, I'll admit. The panning is too wide for instance for such a small band, but I can't redo the mix.

Enjoy, if possible.

You did a great job on this! I thought it flowed nicely, and didn't mind the mix at all. I love how upbeat it is. Reminds of a MIDI Bob James a little bit.

Thanks for sharing smile

Tangmo,

Quite a "joyous" feel to this. Feel good music - good for a celebration!

Listening on monitors, the panning is, perhaps a bit wide... but it doesn't distract from the enjoyment of the music - and would probably only be noticed by folks, like those here, that do their own recording - so not really a "problem" at all (and panning is a personal choice).

An enjoyable piece.

Tangmo,
pretty complex pop composition you got going here. To me, mix sounds good. I liked it!

The only complaint is Midi drums sound a bit thin. Not the beat patterns, but tonality.
There is an amazing VST Midi drum module by Sennheiser it is called Drummica. It is free and has some very cool features, including different drum maps, etc. Takes GM properly. Maybe worth of exploring.

Thank you for sharing!

Misha.

It turned out very well...
You did a good job...
The sound is reminiscent of TV show theme songs...
Did your fiancée like it?

Thanks, guys. I appreciate it.

Jim, yesterday was the first time she heard it. We were 12 time-zones separated back then. I'm pretty sure I told her about it, but it just never came up when we got together. Got a smile yesterday, though...even if she isn't always a huge fan of the music, she loves the band-leader.

I had to look up LUFs.
It's a jaunty piece and the melody could be nicely developed.
The drums do sound electronic, (as in an electronic kit), but could be beefed up.
I came to BIAB for the RealDrums.
Love em.

And Janice says with a smile, "it is celebratory!"

You and old MM did a fine job with this.

We are glad you two aren't separated by 12 (or any) time zones and can enjoy this together.

We did also!

Very cool backtrack. Song does have a great feel to it. Loved the bass runs framing the piano. Very cool

Tangmo,

A good melody; the piano adds a happiness shine.
Never having kept the melody tracks I`ve tried using that Biab feature, its good to hear it can sound right out of the box.
Perhaps lyrics of endearment might bring more smiles and interest from the lady?

Hi Tangmo,

This is a delight to listen to.

The composition, arrangement and production all radiate 'competence' in every direction. I love the sound of the ensemble. All instruments complement one another really well. I particularly liked the bass. It's a great sound and it supports everything terrifically.

In a nutshell... very enjoyable and engaging smile

All the best,
Notl
