I have been through the editing styles tutorial, but i cannot figure out how to make the piano play much less
in a jazz style i want the piano to come in say every other chord or every few bars much less so i have bass and drums then the piano to embellish ocasionally
i have tried deleting patterns ,changing value 1 to 9,options etc etc but its getting really complicated to really do something simple and still no luck at all.
would be nice to have a play less button or play every few bars button on an instrument
anyone have anytips for me ,and or is there a style out there with minimal jazz piano already then i can make a hybrid style from it.
would be nice if there is an easy edit solution. Thanks for any help
steven

Rather than using the style editor, I would try to find a style that does what you want. With 70+ style disks, there must be something that would work. There are styles that are LH piano only that are very subtle. Try entering search words in the style picker that match what you are looking for - such as minimal, embellish, simple, etc. Once you see something that may work, listen to the demo by pressing Load Song Demo from the Style Picker. Or if you are doing a standard like Misty, search for Misty demos. If you know the feel and tempo before hand, that can also help narrow your picks.

If all else fails, go back to the style editor and edit your patterns (Ctrl W).

A possible work around would be the dot. A dot will tell BiaB what instruments to play. Thus a C.dbg will play a C chord using only the drums, bass and guitar. Thus a two chord per measure song could be C then C.dgb or two beats of C using all 5 instruments (drums, bass, guitar, piano, strings) then two beats of C using only the drums, bass and guitar, i.e no strings or piano.

I hope this helps.

I think that's a very creative suggestion, Mario. It would mean you could, if you wished, use a style with quite a 'busy' piano, so silences and contributions from the piano would be quite marked.I've made a note on my jotter to try it as a starting point for a piece !

I too found a lot of the jazz piano comping to be "busy". Using a combination of holds, shots, and rests, does help to create more subtle comping. That is one of the things I like about the Real Track jazz pianos, which seem to be much better in this regard.

I sympathise about the 'busy' comping. Another solution is to add 'blank' patterns to each of the piano pattern rows then use the options to control when and where this empty pattern occurs with regard to beat, bar number chord type etc.

Hope this helps.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, make sure you try to find a style you like. The comping can be quite different from one style to the next. For example, listen to the Jazz ballad styles J_MISTY, JAZZBAL1 and J_SLBAL1. All are approx. the same tempo, but the piano parts are quite different.

Of course, this is a relative concept varying between each person's ears. I play keyboard so it is not an issue for me BUT I spent quite a bit of time finding styles with a bass line that suited my music. Some were too 'busy' for my taste.
