I got a notice and again read the features. For my use a lot of the cool features that are track oriented would be of limited benefit as it appears that they would require Neutron or some of its modules to be on each track. I like Neutron a lot but I equally like Waves CLA series. FWIW.

Just over there reading about it now. I don't think you need Neutron on each track, Bud, not from what I'm reading anyway. It says: "Correct and change instrument levels at the mastering stage without needing the original tracks". Read that here: https://www.izotope.com/en/learn/rebalance-the-master-with-ozone-9.htmlPretty cool tech if that is the case! Anyway, I'll probably bite the bullet and upgrade, I'm a sucker for new toys P.S. Thanks for the heads up Steve!

NP sir. I had not upgraded my Neutron when it was released a few months ago either. I'll probably update both Neutron/Ozone Advanced.

Pretty pricey and no discount for those of us who bought Ozone 8 elements (...maybe because they recently gave it away for free! ). Need to correct that... there is a discount if you have a "paid" Ozone 8 elements. But still... Generally, above my "no-brainer" budget restrictions.

My Sweetwater card will get heavy..... Going for the "Music Production Suite 3" bundle since it has both Ozone/Neutron Advanced upgrades together for me. I've really been impressed with Izotope's product improvements over the last 5 years.

$149 to upgrade to Ozone 9 advanced for me until the end of October, not too bad IMHO. I'll definitely do it before the end of the month.

I’m sitting on the fence. I recently upgraded to the Music Production Suite 2.1. To upgrade the Music Production Suite seems over the top. Maybe from Ozone 8 Advanced to Ozone 9 Advanced but what real benefit would I get. Maybe the Tonal Balance bit might help more but what I have I just got worked out. When it comes to Vintage EQ or the Vintage Limiter that’s what I’ve been using for sometime now. Sometimes I think I upgrade not for need but because I feel I don’t want to be left behind (or is it a status thing). Most of what I have I don’t really use. Where to go from here?

I was really impressed with the demos I heard of the new vintage setting in the master assistant function, big improvement IMHO.
And that new "rebalance the master function" looks very cool too, very impressive demo. I have some old already mastered tracks here that could benefit from that (tracks that I no longer have the source files for so I can't remix).

Are there some amazing new algorithms that can sniff out say a mandolin or piano or guitar track, etc, i.e., actually recognizing the sonic characteristics of that instrument per se? And allowing it to be manipulated w/o affecting other instruments that share those characteristics? Otherwise wouldn’t it be only, perhaps, a more automated use of eq and multiband compression, etc. IMHO code that allow you to, in effect, remix a mixed track (even in a limited manner) would be revolutionary. I’ve spent considerable time trying to improve tunes for which I no longer have the tracks. And the results have been marginal at best. I much look forward to seeing how all this shakes out. Bud

Bud There is definitely some AI happening, Bud. Currently it seems it can only isolate vocals, drums, and bass. But it seems to be able to do so without affecting other instruments living in the same frequency range. Demo is impressive, check it out here: https://www.izotope.com/en/learn/rebalance-the-master-with-ozone-9.html

Maybe from Ozone 8 Advanced to Ozone 9 Advanced but what real benefit would I get. Yeah, I checked Sweetwater and the upgrade from 2.1 to 3 is $199. For the most part it is just the Ozone update you would be getting that's new. It appears that Neutron 2 was upgraded to 3 from 2.0 to 2.1 so I guess that wouldn't be updated for you. Just ask yourself if it's worth the $199 to stay up to date and enjoy the new features of Ozone. You won't be that far behind if you stay on 2.1. You might want to wait a year to see if they do a 3.1 for the next Neutron update then cut loose.

Ya, I am looking close at this - may be something I should think a bit harder about. But, while we are all here, can I ask, what is with that color scheme in the Ozone 9? Is that gray on gray on gray? It just seems awful from a design perspective. Did they just give up on color? How many shades of gray are there?

You may be thinking of the Cakewalk color scheme perfected by SONAR. Grey detail on darker grey background. Ha.
But Ozone 9 promo material looked more dark blue to me. Anyway, I ordered the upgrade. I’m intrigued by the new bass handling.

Purchased version 9, upgrade from 8.
Complete waste of money. Have been unable to install, despite repeated emails back & forth w/ Izotope tech support. Hoping I can get a refund but I won't hold my breath. Very unimpressed with Izotope and their installer issues.

Roger, the download manager process they use is annoying, but I had success using the link in my confirmation email.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!
With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
The 2026 49-PAK is loaded with other great new add-ons as well. Learn more about the 2026 49-PAK!
