I'm sure we all know about the huge splash Disney+ made with their new movie and TV streaming service two days ago. This article in the Hollywood Reporter is about coming union strikes over how studio workers, performers, directors and writers get paid from streaming. Just like with music, TV and movies are going more streaming and less traditional cable or sat TV.

Hollywood guild war

I find this interesting because it's exactly the same thing musicians and songwriters have been griping about for years. The main thing about this article is the writing about now nobody can get direct "success" info about viewership numbers from Amazon, Netflix, Disney, Sony etc because nobody is releasing it. Without that info, how can they have an informed negotiation about how everybody gets paid? Sound familiar?

I think this could ultimately help musicians and songwriters because Hollywood unions have a heckuva lot more clout than the AFM and us lowly musicians do.
