I have come across a whole range of styles that do not come with BIAB. I understand that the styles that come with BIAB are stored in the bb/styles folder.

I was under the impression that any styles that are stored as a sub folder of bb would be searched for when building the styles list. I put all my additional styles in their own folder under bb but it does not appear that they are discovered during a rebuild.

I then put this folder inside the Styles folder and tried a rebuild again, but they do not get discovered there either. I then put just one of the new styles in the bb folder directly and this WAS discovered during a rebuild.

So it appears that the style files have to go directly in to the Styles folder. Is this correct? I was reluctant to do this because any future upgrades may affect my extra styles.

Any comments please?

Thanks

In my opinion, third-party styles can be placed in the "bb / styles" subfolder without a problem.

You just have to do Rebuilt. And if necessary, back them up before re-installing

Jacko, thank you for your prompt response. I agree that putting the styles in the Styles sub folder will work, but I was hoping that I could keep the new styles separate from the existing styles by keeping them in their own folder.

I don't think this is possible. Others may know more.

It used to be that styles could be saved either in the main BIAB folder (e.g. C:\BB) or in a subfolder under the main folder called "Styles" (e.g. C:\BB\Styles). Anything that came from PGMusic was always located in the main BIAB folder, but the program would read styles from both locations. I used to keep my "user" styles (those I created myself, or have downloaded from the internet, or purchased from Bob Norton, etc) in the Styles folder, which kept everything mostly tidy.

When PGMusic reorganized the file structure with BIAB 2018, all styles must now be located in the "Styles" folder, so there is no segregation between the ones PGMusic provides and the ones you obtain elsewhere. I have requested a change to this. Maybe we'll see it one day.

What I would like is to keep the Styles folder, but then maybe have a subfolder called PGMusic for their styles, and then allow us to create additional folders under Styles (Such as Norton, Hawksford, Finetuned, WebStyles, MyStyles, etc). Again, maybe we'll see it one day.

Yes, I agree. I skipped the 2018 and went directly from 2017 to 2020 and, in the back of my mind, I seemed to recall that a subfolder within BB would do the trick. It really is quite messy having them all in the same folder. I suppose a simple tag at the front of the name might help to distinguish them in this folder.

It should work with a symbolic link put in the styles folder that point to the user styles folder elsewhere like on another drive or in bb/My Styles
