Hey all. I just upgraded from 2015 to 2020, and a problem I have always had unfortunately persists. Namely, I go to set a new midi patch, using the mixer. The first time works as just simply as such a simple thing should work. Subsequently, though, trying to change that same patch again, it often becomes "stuck"...when I press "okay", and it goes back to the program...nothing has changed, the last patch is still there. Trying to do it again, and again, is useless. What gives? It's just a patch, should be able to swap them out endlessly, right?

To clarify, here's what I do, and what's happening:
Open a style that has midi tracks> go to mixer and "select Hi-Q midi" > the selections open and I make a choice and click "okay" > the first time of doing that works fine, iirc, but after that, it gets stuck and doesn't want to change the patch.

Does it have something to do with generate, as in play and generate? Thanks!

Something to try that may help and I do this when I specifically use Select Hi-Q midi;

I deselect the Hi-Q midi patch and return the track to the normal midi patch. The program responds normally for me by doing that.

Thanks Charlie! It seems odd that one would need to do that. To me a patch is a patch, about the most common thing there is, ought to be just select and go. So, it just seems like a bug, from my perspective, that to change from one patch to another one must first revert back to the original. But thanks, I'll keep that in mind to try ...BUT! the good news is that I am blown away right now by how much better the Roland TS-1 sounds...I certainly will not be changing patches as much now! I the meantime of this patch question (thanks for the speedy rely by the way sir) I followed Peter Gannon's "no brainer" and installed the TS-1. Kids, I don't know what to say except that I am very glad that I did! Huge dif...very excited about that, will make life much easier around here

Are you trying to change from a Hi-Q MIDI patch to another Hi-Q MIDI patch? If so, you should be able to do that; however, if you are changing to a regular GM patch, you need to remove the Hi-Q designation (as Charlie mentioned) because the patch is really using a VSTi (sforzando) to play the Hi-Q patch (there are only a handful of them). Removing the Hi-Q designation brings you back to your General MIDI synth, from which you can choose any other GM patch.

I do agree, however, that it should do that automatically for you. You should visit the wish list and request it.

"Are you trying to change from a Hi-Q MIDI patch to another Hi-Q MIDI patch? If so, you should be able to do that"

Yes, that's almost always what I am trying to do. And indeed that's what I was trying to do this last time, just yesterday, when (rather predictably) it got "stuck". Thanks for the knowledge though, never hurts to learn exactly what's going on.

Yes, I'm putting it down as a bona fide bug and will probably follow through on that wish list suggestion, thanks!

"and return the track to the normal midi patch"

I have a question about that suggestion: how?

By "the normal midi patch" do you mean, to the patch I started out with before trying to change it?

I don't see an obvious (let alone easy) way to do that, if that's what's meant. What if some time has passed (like in my case a few minutes, lol!) and I don't even remember what the original was? It's not like there is a "revert to previous" menu selection...is there? That would be nice

to return to the normal midi patch is the original style patch.

To remove the Hi-Q Patch, Rt Click on the Mixer Track you want to edit.
from the drop down menu, select MIDI Instrument (patch)
Select Hi-Q Midi Patch
---

Select the first item on the list; No Preset wanted (remove/clear any current preset)

Click OK

Okay, now the memories of having discovered that for myself years ago come flooding back. I think it would be different if I were using BIAB more than I have been (which is just occasionally, with long stretches of no use), to reinforce this stuff. But now since I've upgraded yesterday, having all the styles and realtracks and realdrums and decent soft synth (the Roland TS-1) should make everything a lot less frustrating, so I'll probably get a chance to retain all this stuff, because I'll be using it much more happily.

Thanks Charlie, much appreciated!
