Has anyone here seen the lectures given by Leonard Bernstein at Harvard University in 1973? The title is "The Unanswered Question." I just came across it on YouTube today and although I'm only 1 hour into the first part which runs 1:45, I'm simply awed and amazed at the clarity and quiet brilliance that he brings to the topic of the foundations of western music. It's definitely intended for the academic audience, but Leonard's fierce personality really brings it down to earth and he demonstrates on the piano as he is speaking, so it's not just dry lecture. I was pleasantly surprised to note that he was very careful to point out that western music and our well known 12 tones is simply one possible system, out of many.
I'd really like to hear from anyone here that's seen the lectures or if you decide to check them out, what you think. I really believe it could be a fascinating and energizing discussion topic.

Hi Ed, Yes, I have those lectures. They are well worth the journey. Bernstein was a musical genius and there is such a lot to pick up from what he says. I highly recommend this collection to everyone. Regards, Noel
