I just moved to a computer with Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit. I'm trying to finish up a project with an older version of PTW. I'm getting skips on midi notes, even with just one channel of midi in the song. Any help would be appreciated.

MIDI is so low in the usage of computer resources that I don't think you will solve it by looking at your audio software or settings. Instead, as this is a different computer, I recommend ruling out malware first. Malwarebytes and Super Anti Spyware are good starts.

You might also look for bloatware that is hogging the resources, especially if you hear skips playing back audio (not MIDI). The free DPC Latency Checker will find that quickly. It says it isn't for Windows 10 but it works fine; just consider 1000 the new zero.

Thanks, Matt. The audio works fine. It's just the midi that drops out.

It might be a good idea to post what hardware/software your using for ease in helping you out.

As Matt states....midi is no resource hog.

My guess: check your midi input & output buffers settings.
Those settings should be accessible within your interface somewhere.

My settings: 64ms for recording and 250ms for playback.
Note: these were default settings in Sonar X3 and I really can't remember the last time I actually had a problem with midi and had to putz with any buffer settings.

Again....maybe post your computer specs/peripherals so people that know more than me can chime in.....there's a few midi gurus here.
Mountainside/Noel/and rockstar_not/Notes_Norton to name a few if my memory serves me correctly.

I do hope that helps a bit....carry on.

Thanks. I'm using the Behringer Umc 204HD interface. I haven't found a way to change the midi buffer settings. I can change the audio buffers from within PowerTracks 2010. I have Win10 Pro 64bit with 16 G of ram.

Are your drivers up to date? Is the Behringer the primary midi device?

I run the Behringer UMC 404HD at 256 samples with no MIDI dropouts on a decade old i5 laptop. I would make sure drivers are up to date.

Make sure your Options-MIDI Devices selection is correct.
Avoid using MIDI Mapper if possible (in my experience).
Choose something else like MS Synth, or your interface drivers if available, see if this helps.

If it doesn't work set it back to what it was, nothing lost.
Just make a note of current settings before changing

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
