Hi, I am a new member and ask you for help.

I use biab 2020 in external hd with Dell Inspiron 1720 Win 7. I’d like to play my songs (accompaniment track) in a pa audio system, for gigs, via ipad connected to the mixer.

I’ve written the first song, only real tracks, 2 arrange, 6 tracks, 100 bars. I have rendered the song in wav file. I transferred the wav file to ipad via itunes with wav encoder. (no mp3 or other compressed files). So I guess there was no loss of quality.

Result. The wav file rendered volume is very low in the PC, in the ipad and in the Pa system. It appears that wav rendering greatly reduces the volume of the song.

First question: can I adjust the rendering volume without acting on the general volume of biab mixer, which is already compatible with no distortion at the most?

Second question: the piano sounds good in biab, instead it sounds distorted in the wav file. Its volume is very low in the biab mixer. I don't understand why. can someone help me? Thank you

Hi, and welcome. Getting stuff ready for playing through a PA what I do is render the tracks and put them in a DAW. In the DAW I mix the song to ensure the Volume and Tonal Balances are what I want. I also check the parts are played how I like them. Maybe move parts around the song. Lift parts and lower others to make it sound the way I want.

The final stage is played via a LUFS (Loudness Units to Full Scale) meter. This ensures the volume level is correct and consistent. It also makes sure each track is about the same level wise. That avoids the need of going for the volume knob each song.

Note: that is what I do, not all do it this way. I actually go a step further and convert to MP3 at 320Kb/s. I’m not that concerned about the minor losses after all it is going into a PA to a noisy audience that would not hear the difference.

Have fun.

Tony

Also depending on the venue, PA system, music type, etc. I usually mix my music to mono. My reason is that stereo separation cam make the sound unbalanced. I don’t want the left side of the room hearing the piano, and the right side the guitar.

Valentino,
Once I have the file rendered to .wav I run it through a free program called Wavepad from NCH software. In this program, I remove the count in beats and trim the end of the song and usually add a fade out in Wavepad. Then you can amplify or normalize the file to whatever level you wish. I usually normalize the file to -3db within Wavepad and save it as a .wav or .mp3 I've used this method for many years with no problems. The Wavepad sound editor is free and this is the only part of their software bundle that I use. I've tried some other features within wavepad but didn't like those. The Wavepad sound editor has worked flawlessly for me and is very simple to use. I use Band in a Box and Realband exclusively for my DAW and use Wavepad as the final amplification software. I've done over 300 songs this way so far with no problem. I usually save it to .mp3 and load them on my tablet for playing at gigs, running the tablet audio through a PA system as an accompaniment.

Also, in the mixer (if final volume is the only issue) try boosting the main output of the mixer before rendering.
This may make everything render louder.
Images show BiaB and RB mixer differences on where you may want to look.

I don't render at all. I sent 10 separate out to 10 channels of a hardware digital mixer. With one for voice as well. And two for harmonies and one for my bass.

Good point Rharv!
I forgot to mention that when I do a Normalize in wavepad, I listen to it after the normalization to check the mix. Sometimes I need to go back and change the levels on vocals or some other part within Realband and then render the file again and re-normalize in Wavepad until you get the sound and volume that you want. It only takes a few minutes to get the mix and sound levels you need.

In RB or BiaB?

If in RB, do your VU Out meters in the bottom of RB look like they are making a decently loud wav file?
Or, if you Open the same resulting wav file in RB does the wav display look small, or does it show nice volume?

In reality your wav file should be 26dB below 0 in the didital mixer.
Turn up the gain on the HW mixer to the right level. Yes do mono.

Since these files are for gigging, use your PA for mixing. You will hear a huge difference between that and studio monitors or headphones plus get you much closer to what it really sounds like. Second, I used to mix in stereo only to put the bass and drums on the L channel and everything else on the R. This gave some control of the levels in a mono PA. The L and R went into two separate channels with individual tone controls. Bass can be boomy or buried depending on the venue so you can EQ that and the drums separate from the R channel. If you want complete control then you have to use a more expensive multichannel interface going into a multichannel mixer like Silvertones does. No rendering then, he plays the songs live from Real Band.

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
