BIAB 2020 Build 715 64 bit does not start/run for me. 32 bit does. Also, the plugin does not work as it is apparently calling on BIAB 64.
I have reverted to build 713. I don't spot anything running in task manager after attempting to run BIAB 64, however trying to reinstall BIAB (715 or 713) required a restart as some part of it was still running, and install could not complete/continue. I have tried putting safemode.txt in bb Preferences folder - no change, and nothing created in that file. Windows 10

As a suggestion only, could you try disabling any A/V software, and then try to launch the program?

If you are running A/V software, is it Avast?

Yes, disable malware checkers on /BB. Also, did you try Run as Administrator?

Also, try deleting the files in /BB/Preferences. It’s another way of reverting to the factory settings.

"is it Avast?" - Yes it is

That was it - I added my PGMusic folder which contains everything PGMusic to the Avast exceptions list and that solved it.

Good work VT, thanks.

Excellent Dave. It was more than a lucky guess. Another user had a similar problem and was using that particular A/V software. The symptoms were the same.

Glad you got it going OK.

Can someone with AVAST and who has this problem please PM me the log or Avast report that identifies bbw.exe and/or bbw64.exe as a threat?

I tried it several times during the beta and this build always failed on my computer. It just won't even start. I have not had a chance yet to try the released version but I assume it is the exact same build.

And yes, I use Avast. And no, I do not see adding an exception for the bb folder as an acceptable solution! Any company can get hacked and if/when PGM gets hacked you are inviting an infection in your machine by disallowing Avast from protecting the bb folder. No other modern software program I run requires this exception!

I am amazed that people here are suggesting you "disable malware checkers on /BB" and "try disabling any A/V software". Exactly why are you guys even bothering with virus/malware software if your response is to disable it and let problem programs run???

Hi Andrew - I'd be happy to send an Avast log if I knew where to find such a log/report - couldn't find anything. I got no message from Avast when BIAB 64 didn't start, just found that adding BB folder(s) to Avast's exceptions list allowed BIAB 64 to run.

Hi JJJ,
I only suggested to disable the A/V to see if the program would then start. Certainly there was no intention to to disable it permanently. The intention was to pinpoint if the A/V was the cause of the problem. Some A/V software products give false positives. Some are better than others. I may be incorrect, but so far, I believe that the only people that have reported this issue are Avast users.
Hope this clarifies smile

I hear ya, VT! But the OP responded with something to the effect of "disabled Avast for bb and now it is fixed"! I doubt his intent was to go back and remove that exception so now he is susceptible to an infection if/when PGM gets hacked. I would recommend PGM install Avast on one or more test computers and try to fix this.

I dumped the (free) avast, far too intrusive and meddling. Got paid defender, the same, and now paid Avira.
I used paid TS360 for a year, worked fine but in fact it was never tested and i wanted to make sure i was 'protected' up to date. No problems with 715 ...

Hello Andrew, I can't find any reference for bbw64.exe at C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log & C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\report.

There are 2 log files that I can't open though: js_console.log & AvastUI.log.

I added an exception for bb folder at Avast too.

I always disable my anti-virus, anti-malware, cCleaner, etc, whenever I am making music. I do all of that right after I disable my Ethernet card, thus nothing can get in or out.

When you are at the checkout line and they ask if you found everything say "Why, are you hiding stuff?"

This false positive has been reported for AVG as well as AVAST, which makes sense because I think they use the same engine.

It is very annoying that Avast does this, and apparently does not provide any information to the user.

So if users could please contact these companies as well and inform them of the false positive, maybe their algorithms will detect a pattern of false positive reports and take some action.

No, it is just as logical, more so actually, that the converse is what is needed.

We've been in touch with Avast, and I'm expecting that this will be resolved soon.
But indeed, in the mean-time if you simply create an exception for the file bbw64.exe (and/or bbw.exe if you run the 32bit version) this will allow you to run Band-in-a-Box.

Hi,

There is a new build that is currently in pre-release testing and will be posted soon if no problems are found. This should fix the Avast issue.

Hello... I contacted Avast support and they said to upload the file on VirusTotal and send them the link so they can investigate further. I didn't upload it.

As I see there is a new build 717, I hope it fixes this, thanks.
