I think I have every solo RT that PG has ever come up with. With every song I do, I always try to include a solo on verse 2 of the 3 verses. But, after having done some 600 songs I'm looking for something new and different.
Generally, when I pick a solo I click on the Soloist Button and then click on "Add best RT soloist to the soloist track". But its the other drop down that interests me now. The one that says "Open soloist dialogue to choose MIDI or RT soloist". Seems that there are quite a few workable options here, but there's a problem with this selection versus the "add best RT soloist". You can't hear or preview any of the tracks that you select in the second option.
Am I missing something here with this drop-down? Is there really no way to hear what you select other than to drop it into your song and regenerate the entire song?
I would really like to find a way to preview listen to these as a quick way of going through what they might sound like.
Hmmmm....after 70 views and no thoughts, I guess there is no way to hear and preview RT's or MIDI tracks when using "Open soloist dialogue to choose MIDI or RT soloist" button.
Makes me wonder what this part of the Soloist button is good for.
That's why I said about sample sets for each ReaTrack/Drum. This way you can create whatever solo you like and it will blend in with the original instrument. This is what UJAM instruments have, they have actual session players playing as well as a sample set of their instrument.
Similar to Pipeline's suggestion, I have been able to construct new and unique solo's by using search to find specific artists and expand the amount of audio recordings to select from for solos, fills and varying rhythm patterns.
It's not difficult to find an artist with recordings that may be different feel, tempo, rhythm track or soloist for the artist to be using the same instrument and material can be chosen and used from the various recordings that will work on your project. There may be usable riffs found in a rhythm RealTrack, and a percentage of material will be usable of a swing feel in an even feel song as well as usable material from recordings at different tempos and key signatures.
Issues can come from artifacts generated in the elastique process and stretching but even if only 20% of the material can be used, that's a 20% increase in usable audio recordings.
I recently used this procedure for artist Dwight Sills. Searching Styles resulted in 75 styles that cover dozens of genres and musical styles from 8 RealTrack recordings. The recordings are all by the same artist playing the same instrument so any usable material gathered from a RealTrack with a different feel, tempo rhythm pattern or soloist type will blend perfectly with the original instrument.
Hi Charlie! That's an interesting "page". Did not think about using that one to find solos. I've always used the Soloist button but your suggestion just might be the way to pickup on a few more possibilities.
I've done a lot of cutting and pasting from different RT's as well, it's tedious but it can be effective. Your original question was asking about the midi soloists. Some of them are pretty good but no, there is no way to audition individual midi tracks. I went on quite a bit about that in a thread in the Real Band forum. He wasn't asking about soloists specifically he was asking about individual midi style parts but it's the same thing. You have to pick one, load it up and hit Play before you can hear it.
Yep, it's great to have these solo options, but finding any thing useful is another thing. maybe with the exception of Andy Leftwich' bluegrass stuff? Almost al ways turns out fairly OK. Charlie's tips might be a great way of working, still some "gevogel", = dutchspeak for fiddling around.

It's how great records are made.
The recording project for Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors" began in February 1976 and was released in February 1977. From CNN, "After a year of 10-to-14 hour workdays, the use of seven recording studios and just under $1 million in production costs, Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" was released in 1977". It was 11 tracks running 39:43.
Wikipedia tells us "Lindsey Buckingham took charge of the studio sessions to make "a pop album". According to producer Richard Dashut, while Fleetwood and the McVies came from an improvisational blues-rock background, the guitarist understood "the craft of record making"."
Right. What we all need is that upcoming Telepathic DAW that knows exactly what you're looking for and just finds it and loads it up for you. PrestoChango, instant awesome solo!
