Hi all, Whenever I open a session of BIAB I get a yellow box message telling me that the complex chords (9th 13th etc) have been ( I can't remember the exact wording and it disappears from the screen quite quickly) amended.
However recently, for my first song I opened a very basic song with only C,F & G7 chards (yes country )and I still got the "complex chords" message.
Hi Noel, I hope you're keeping fit & healthy. I'm curious as to why I get the message on a simple chord progression …. or is it just a standard pop up when you open the program? Perhaps someone from PGM may respond?
Hi Keith This is the classic confusing message for me too. Some people seem to understand that it is OK, but I'm still beat. Try this: Create a new song, 32 bars, key of C. One C Chord on the first bar, and generate. This is what I get:
BIAB & RB2025 Win.(Audiophile), Sonar Platinum, Cakewalk by Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M Monitors, Pioneer Active Monitors, AKG K271 Studio H'phones
If it’s important that you hear the exact chords you wrote, turn off Natural Arrangement and ignore the cautions. And in the extreme, use MIDI for your chordal instruments.
BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Roland Integra-7, Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.
Hi all I wonder if this message relates to the complex chords that will arise from using your chosen style (as recorded in the realtrack variations) some styles more so than others. And not the chord progression you have entered on the chord sheet. Just a thought. Mike
Yes, I get that annoying message also! It goes on to say that the message is delivered once per session. The problem is that I do not want my chords simplified in any way for any tunes. I can't find a preference where you can ensure that chords are played as written, and perhaps blocks of that message function entirely.
If you go into the BIAB Preferences settings, under "Arrange"...in the lower left corner of "Arrange", you'll find the controls for this. It can either be set to never reinterpret chords, sometimes or only just for jazz songs. You can also set whether this message pops up at all.
Using this same screen, you can set natural arrangement settings individually, by song, by selecting the Song Settings tab in the upper center of each song screen, right across from the song title.
In use, I really haven't noticed a whole lot of change except in one situation. If I have a RealTrack solo in a song, and turn on Natural Arrangement for that song, it seems to create a better solo passage than if I don't use it.
Keep in mind, from my experience, to use Natural Arrangement, you have to engage it, unfreeze all tracks and then regenerate the whole song again...but it does seem to work.
