Can anyone advise if the Piano riff style in this tune, a sort of 50s/60s RnR piano arpeggio, exists in our RTs or as a Style, midi or RT?
Its a very recognisable piano style, to me anyway, but as a guitarist I'm finding it hard to find anything in BB.
I have full BB with ALL (AFAIK) current RTs, Style packs and midi styles.

The song is "I Can't Stand The Rain", no not the Tina Turner one but the one by The Munroes etc.
Short audio grab here (unkown girl singer cover) -

Any ideas folks?

Sixchannel, I'm not sure exactly what you are focusing on, but here is my $.02. The opening riff is a "raking" of all the piano keys (chromatically), or maybe just all the white keys only, or maybe all the black keys only. The expert keyboardists can narrow that down for you. I honestly don't know if there is a real track created with that "rake" in it. I just hook up a midi keyboard and do that in my DAW outside of BIAB. My apologies if you already knew all this.

The rhythm style of the audio grab, to me, is a variation of a latin feel, like a samba/bossa style. I can't guarantee that there is a latin style that will work perfectly using all BIAB instruments, but you might find a piano part within one of those styles that you can drag into your DAW.

In the stylepicker, you could type the name of the song in that searchbox, and you might get lucky with a suggestion. Sorry if this doesn't help.

Here is what I would do. Figure out the notes on your guitar. You don't necessarily need all the notes just the starting and ending notes of one piano rip. In the piano roll view of the MIDI piano track input those notes. Now fill in the rip with the in between notes; this may take a little time. Once you have one part down you can copy, paste, and transpose the part to fit the other chords.

This maybe easier in a DAW with a higher PPQ.

Good luck.

Hi Limestone - I dont have a midi keyboard so playing it in is out of the question.
Hi Mario - Quite do-able. There are 8 chords in the whole thing so maybe using piano roll is a way out. I HAVE found that the riff is payable on a guitar so if that fails, I may change the arrangement and use my Strat to give me the "piano" track.

Ian, record one riff on your guitar then convert the audio to MIDI. Melodyne can do that and so can RealBand as well as other programs. You may need to do a little editing but once you have the riff in MIDI you can copy, paste, and transpose each one independently depending on the chord.

The repeating pattern sounds like it resembles a rhumba, especially what's going on in beat two (the short arpeggios).

I listened to the song you linked to and that opening riff "raking" is solo'd at the beginning so I was able to "Sample" that riff, determine the key of the song to be D
and the tempo 130 bpm. I placed the rake riff at the beginning of the song prior to bar one and then into several more bars where there were stops.

I analyzed the song with the ACW and populated the Chord Chart and the selected a Rhumba MIDI Style from the StylePicker and had a 'just for fun' moment and also isolated the vocal track and created an almost acceptable cover. I also mixed the audio sample riff and the MIDI Piano track into a single stereo track so the SGU plays the vocals and piano as frozen tracks that do not have to be generated.

I've attached some screen shots and also uploaded a low resolution mp3 educational demonstration to my SoundCloud account that's set to Private and can PM you a link if you or others are interested. NOTE: SC Demo is for educational purposes only

I don't what they call this style but the piano part is a simple root position major triad arpeggio except instead of going down which is very common this one goes up. The actual lick is a One-and-Two-and timing.

In the key of D the notes are D F# A D. A guitarist would place his hand to form a D major triad and pick the low D (bass) note cleanly on the downbeat of one, begin the down stroke to sound each note of the arpeggio on the "and after one", and the bottom of that stroke is the downbeat of two landing on the D an octave up and the up stroke the "and after two". Three and four are just light rhythm. I've seen guys do that a million times but don't ask me the fret or hand positions.

lol. Dont worry Bob. I wont. That "rake" is pretty common guitar thing, often done muted in RnR tracks of yesteryear and its pretty close to what the Piano is doing plus the octave root note.
MAny thanks Bob

I have uploaded the SGU Files and also the associated files in the saved folder created when the project was saved to Dropbox. These additional files are necessary for the SGU files to display and react properly for those that may want to study the SGU file. I have sent a test to a User to verify things work as they should and will post the link to the Dropbox folder once proper operation has been confirmed.

Hi Charlie
Sorry for the delay - yet another Win10 glitch, now remedied.
Thank you so much for all that work. It sure sorted out a few things in my mind.
Since I started on this I've tweaked a few chords (as I do blush) and will now add them in to your matrix and have a bit of Fun.
Once more, many thanks

Ian
