Is it possible, in the following progression, to force a bass RT to play as a 5-string bass in order to play a low D note instead of playing a high D and then going to a low E?
G/D C/E Bm/F# Em/G
I would like the bass progression to only go up from the D bass note. Currently it is playing from a high E above the D note because it is playing like a 4 string bass.
Also brings up another question: Are all of the bass RT's done on a 4 string bass or are there 5 & 6 string bass RT's

I tried that and the 1st time around it did not work. It still picked the high D note above E for the 1st chord. I regenerated and it picked a low D note below the E. I regenerated it the 3rd time and it picked the high D note above E so I did it the 4th time it picked the low D note below the E for the 1st measure where I had the chord G/D but around 8 bars later where the chord G/D showed up again, it picked the high D note above E.
It seems all you can do is throw the dice and hope that it will pick the low note each time you generate a song.
Would like to see if you can force BIAB to pick a low note each time.
In another chord progression of G/D, C/E, Bm/F#, Em/G, in the song, it plays the bass notes D,E,F# ascending but then picks the G note below the D note instead of continuing to ascend up the a high D note as the song was written.
Using 592:Bass, Acoustic Bluegrass Doc Ev 100 for the bass track.

I rarely use RTs so I haven't encountered these issues. I use MIDI so I can voice any chord the way I want them.
I have not lowered the bass to D2 so I have no experience with your issues. But I am surprised that it doesn't work like it is supposed to work.
I have seen the walking bass via slash chords issue in MIDI. But I can easily correct that mistake.
My only suggestion would be to purchase a polyphonic version of Melodyne. It ain't cheap but it does an excellent job with audio. I have changed audio guitar chords to sound like I want and I have added notes to form a different chord in Melodyne.

that's why you can freeze a track. BIAB has a mind of its own so when it gets it right freeze it. if you are working in BIAB all the way through and even with freezing you still don't like the bass choice of notes, live with the wrong notes until you're happy with the whole song, save and then open in RealBand and just do a multiriff for the short selection you want to change and pick the one you like.
i find RealBand easier to use for predictable results. of course it depends on whether the bass player played a five string bass on the original recording.
Bob: If I were doing this for public release, I would give it a go. Since I am only using it for in-house practice of a song a friend wrote, I'll live with what BIAB decides to give me. After all, it obviously knows best.

Not necessarily. This is a very common problem even in live performance studio recordings. If you think of RealTracks as if they were a live performance recording for your project, you'll see the solution for correcting a BIAB generated RealTrack is the same as any live performance studio recording. This is especially true if any of your RealTrack generations gets what you want correct just once...
As you're inputting chords and arranging your song, regenerating the tracks along the way, if you notice that BIAB sometimes gets the notes right and other times not, BIAB has tools and techniques to capture that correct phrasing and then insert that chord or phrase into the correct bars and beats locations just the same as correcting an audio track recording in a live studio situation. In essence, you will be performing what's called a Punch in/out procedure. Also, the same as in a live performance studio recording situation, that correct phrase can be used multiple times and in multiple measures of your RealTrack recording giving your track exactly the phrasing you want.
There are multiple methods to accomplish this task and as you've stated, there may be a difference in the choice you make depending on the ultimate use of your BIAB project. In your particular use for in-house practice, the fastest means to the end and least troublesome would be to complete the task totally within your BIAB project and not use other external software DAW programs, including RealBand. In this situation, BIAB has the tools and techniques to do the task solely within the one instance of BIAB without the need of multiple BIAB projects open or any outside source required.
I see in your post you've resolved the issue this time but when it pops up again in a future project, post again and I'll post the procedure step by step for you and others that may encounter this same issue.
I did not resolve the issue, I chose to live with the issue because it is not worth the time and effort to clean it up for a simple practice backing track.
Thanks again for the tip that I can use in the future in case I need to really clean it up.
