For anyone interested in the very basics of how Allan Holdsworth approached his guitar playing and his unique use of scales, you may like this. The link below starts when Allan talks about how he conceives of and plays a C major scale. Allan Holdsworth talks about scales Clearly he sees and hears it differently than most people. I heard an anecdote about Thelonius Monk which was very similar. The person interviewed stated that he heard Monk play a jazz standard note for note from sheet music and it *still* sounded like Monk. It's fascinating to me how different people can take the same instrument or the same musical elements and create something completely unique. **Update** I noticed a comment about the copyright of this video being under question, so mods please remove this post if appropriate. That's an interesting statement to me, as I also think of some scales as "OK, it's this scale with a different note" .. so I'm one of the weird ones that can relate to that.
Bugs the crap out of some musicians I work with.
I have a theory that anyone who can discuss music theory is a bit different than most.
So how they interpret it is often different too. That's what makes music fun; it's not a rule/law but rather a theory.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
