If I am understanding these new tracks I can paste audio onto them or paste MIDI onto them.

1) What happens when I regenerate? I assume nothing changes on the editable utility tracks?

2) What happens to the audio on the editable utility tracks if I change key? I am guessing nothing?

3) What happens to the audio on the editable utility tracks if I add bars to my song? Does it just add blank space to the end?

4) What happens to the audio on the editable utility tracks if I insert bars into my song? Does it insert blank space equivalent to the inserted bars in the proper place in the utility track?

5) Related to #4 above, what happens in the following example,
- generate 24 bar song with one chorus
- copy generated audio on one RealTrack to a utility track
- insert 4 bars at bar #5
- does the audio on the utility track get split with space or remain unchanged or something else?

1) When you regenerate, nothing changes on the Utility tracks.
2) When you change key, nothing changes on the Utility tracks.
3) and 4) When you add bars, anywhere, nothing changes on the Utility tracks. The Utility track will end early.
5) Nothing changes on the Utility tracks.

Thanks Matt. That is what I thought based on everything I have read here so far. So, it would seem to me that the utility tracks would be best used near the end of a project when there is little chance you would want to change song length, tempo, key, etc. This is good to know.

Matt, if you don't mind I have another related question. smile

Can I copy/paste a portion of a generated RealTrack audio to a utility track or do I need to paste the entire track's audio and then edit it?

And if I can paste a portion does it automatically place it in the correct position on the utility track?

For example, if I generated my song and then copy/pasted bars 5 through 8 of the Piano RealTrack to a utility track would it paste at the start of bar 5 or would I need to move it there?

Thanks again for your help in understanding this new feature.

I was glad to test it, as I wanted to know, too.

I believe your conclusion is correct that you would want to use the Utility track(s) only when the song form is finished.

It's possible something will change but my understanding is that it is not correct to call this copy/paste. You use the Copy Special, Move track menu command. I even requested during testing that they make it a drag and drop. What it does now is make a copy of the entire track. Perhaps copying part of a track will come in the future. For now, you get the whole track and you edit that in the place it falls.

Sounds like having the whole track would be useful and flexible. Thanks for testing that for me!

Pipeline posted a gif on your other thread to how to copy/Paste sections rather than the whole track. In short, select the desired RealTrack and open that track's Audio Edit window; Highlight the selection eg: bars 5-8; Right click and select Copy (Ctrl-C) then select the Utility Track and place the curser at Bar 5, Rt click and select Paste (Ctrl-V) and the highlighted and selected audio from the RealTrack will paste starting at Bar 5 onto the Utility Track. Pipeline suggests having the Snap feature selected as well.
