I cannot get endings to work out.

For example, Fleetwood Mac Song LXXXSlide. At the end of the song there is one measure with a fermata. "Snow covered hills..." Then she picks up singing, and repeats one phrase. Then the song ends on a sustained minor chord. That's all folks, no drum fanfare no wake-the-audience up drum crashes, etc. Nothing. Just STOP PLAYING and let the chord just fade out.

What do I have to do to get what would seem to be a simple ending?

Thanks.

Michael

just try a hold - do not choose the usual two bar ending, enter the chords the way you want and for the final chord enter the chord you want and use three dots to get a hold and maybe add an extra bar with the same chord shown as a rest to cut off the hold

Well the fermata thing must be screwing things up. What I did for that:

In the fermata measure I placed a hold and I decreased tempo by -15%.

In the immediate next measure I put the tempo back by 15%.

The result is a lot of inappropriate real track playing.

So, your way worked good as long as I eliminated the fermata. Is there a better way to do the fermata or is that pretty much a lost cause with Real Tracks?

Thanks again.

Michael

How did you apply the fermata? Was that in the notation? If using a RealTrack, that probably won't be recognized.

Adding a Hold to the Chord, with some experimentation, including adding one or more additional bars after your required song ending with a rest applied, might work.

C. indicates a C chord that is a Rest.
C.. indicates a C chord that is a Shot.
C... indicates a C chord that is a Held Chord.

What I did is explained above. Namely, I adjusted the tempo of the fermata measure. I adjusted it downward by about 15%. That slowed that measure down considerably. That worked fine.

The next step was the problem. The next measure I put the tempo back up by 15%. At that point the real band instrument started playing all sorts of ruckus from that measure forward.

Michael,

Just for reference, if you decrease the tempo by 15% and then increase by 15%, you will have a slightly lower tempo.

For example. 100 - (15/100*100) = 85

and then 85 + (15/100*85) = 97.75 (not 100)

This is the reason that I use absolute values rather then percentages. With this in mind, try using specific values and see if it helps. Also, you'll need to unfreeze tracks and regenerate after setting the values.

A couple of thoughts (just to clarify things)...

1. Have you disabled BIAB's 2-bar ending to do this? If you are making timing changes in the last two bars assigned to BIAB's ending, this could create issues.

2. Do you have any bars where you've changed the number of beats? For example, is the slow down bar the same number of beats as the bar that follows it and the bar that precedes it?

Regards,
Noel

Noll:

Thanks for your note.

Your reason number one was the exact thing that was wrong. Basically you can’t muck around in an ending because there’s too much automation there.

Also thanks for the math lesson!

Michael

Hi Michael.

Excellent. I'm glad you got it sorted. Just in time for the New Year, too!

When it comes to endings..... Try using a DAW. But first, roll your own endings, vs using the 2 or 4 bar BB ending. I just add a few (8) measures to the song and create my own ending with holds, and tempo changes as needed. I take it to the DAW where I use the edit functions to make my ending sound exactly like I want. I've used volume envelopes, and midi to recreate notes that I want held that BB didn't do such a good job with.
