I created a keyboard intro to the song I'm working on by creating a .mid file in Finale.
I opened the MIDI file in BIAB, which gave me a song 5 bars long. I edited the song length, added chords, Real Style, etc. Tune sounded pretty good. I changed the MIDI sound of the melody, which was only the 5-bar MIDI file intro, to the electric piano sound I liked. All good.
However, I then generated a similar-sounding electric piano Real Track in a Utility track. Now the .mid file intro won't play. When I look at the notation for the Melody track, the notes are there, but no sound. It's up in the mixer. I even went into the Bar Settings and set that track to "Back To Normal", as other tracks are muted there. No MIDI intro.
I also wanted to paste the same 5-bar MIDI track later on in the tune. How does one do this?

It sounds like something has got electronically "stuck".
What I'd try is to change the sound for the melody and see if that kicks it into action. If that didn't work, I'd try loading a different synth and even turning off the VSTi/DXi synth and running on my computer's internal synth.

just as an experiment does the BIAB file open in RealBand and play properly?

Just check in Preferences - Channels, check that the melody Midi channel is still channel 4.
I have found that importing Midi files changes the channel setting. I have reported this but not sure if it is just on my end or a BIAB problem.
