So I thought I would dip my toe and and starting playing with the Utility tracks.
I took a finished song that I had and moved a RealTrack from the Strings track (MIDI ch.6) to Utility Track #1. No problem there as the program converted the RT to audio on the Utility track. The song plays fine using the audio on Utility #1.
Then I went back to the original Strings track (MIDI ch.6) and tried to substitute a new RealTrack on that track. The new RT shows on the track and it looks like I can regenerate it. It's not frozen or muted but there is no sound, even when soloed, and the description is grayed out on the mixer.
What am I doing wrong?

I’m not sure, and I can’t test it now, but in case this helps:
I recall having a problem replacing a MIDI track with a RealTrack in the same position. I think it was something about the style overriding my substitution. This was long before Utility Tracks. I have no idea if my guess is correct but if it helps someone who might be able to test it, very good.
I plan to try your experiment tonight if no one else has solved it by then.

I don’t know, but the midi channel that the mixer uses does not come into this if we are dealing with Realtracks as they are audio anyway.

Looks like I got this worked out. Rather than leaving all tracks selected in the transfer dropdown, it appears that you have to be very specific as to the track you want to move in the "include channels" even if the other tracks are grayed out.
