I'm trying to add a MIDI track from an existing BiaB style but it generates nothing. These are my steps: 1: Right click on Mixer and select Custom MIDI Style for this track 2: Select Slow Strings patch and choose a style for this patch 3: Select BOSANEW Style which contains Slow Strings track 4: Select OK and Custom MIDI Style appears on the Mixer Track. 5: Generate the song, and Nothing Happens - no track is generated. Notation is blank.
This is one of those 'Sometimes it actually works' issues where a small celebration is required.
Can some kind soul point out my error?

I got same as you when I tried 50 Slow Strings - no sounds at first but then maybe just a few notes mid song. I think the problem is the midi data you selected was very sparce and maybe only played mid song?? You may want to go back and look close at the midi data in the style you selected to confirm.
So if you want to see this feature work, switch to a different patch, like 02 Bright Piano and it should work like a champ first time. Did for me.
I haven't tried it but I'm guessing it's tied up with the fact that the Soloist track doesn't generate MIDI -- historically, at least -- unless one uses the Soloist dialogue.
As far as I'm aware, both MELODY and SOLOIST tracks still preserve any MIDI information unless a Realtrack is added.
Also, if you try it on the other tracks, I suspect that it would be necessary to disable the auto-replace MIDI with Realtracks option.
Just my two pennyworth - I had similar to this once. Turned out that the Slow Strings on the midi style that I'd nicked them from played them on B only - there were none used on the A. Worth a check? Bests Ian

I have had similar experiences with BiaB. Sometimes it will only play a track or two while the others are silent. If I save the song, close BiaB, reopen BiaB and load the song sometimes it plays perfectly and sometimes not. I have not figured out how or why. This is the first year I have had these kinds of problems with BiaB.
I arrived early to a restaurant. The manager asks, "do you mind waiting a bit?" I said no. "Good", he said. "Take these drinks to table 3"

Just a thought or two, Noel
Hi Noel, thanks for your suggestions, they are appreciated. The MIDI Tracks Picker very happily lists the Melody and Soloist Tracks as being candidates (see screen capture 2), and the picker offers a "Clear 'xxxx' Track" button which does appear to work.
I'll keep trying, but I feel there is a serious 'operational issue' with the program. Trev

Hi Dan, thanks for your input. I also was wondering that the slow strings might only play in a part B section, but that's not so. It does play an embellished arrangement in Part B but also plays in part A. What I have found is that it works if I start a new song. But doesn't work once a song has been 'used' (I don't know what constitutes 'used', sorry ) Here I started a new song with an existing RealTracks Style, and put the Slow Strings from the same Custom MIDI Style onto both the Melody and Soloist Tracks and it works perfectly. The program should at least offer a message to the user that it cannot deliver one of its own internal functions. The program must know that no MIDI data gets generated. I'll keep looking, and I'm sure mine is not an isolated case. I expect that I'll need to escalate this to Support.

Hi Ian, thanks, good suggestion, but it does play in Part A and Part B sections, it's just that Part B is slightly more embellished. Trev

I've sent this off to Support. I'm hopeful that they will be able to identify what I'm doing wrong (or otherwise).
I will definitely keep looking for a resolution to this issue.
In the meantime, I am still open to any suggestions.

I am also having lots of problems inserting a "Custom Midi Style" into a song in BIAB. I'm using BIAB 2021, build 814
I've also noticed that a new song (before saving) seems to work most of the time.
If a song has been saved, or sometimes, even generated a few times, problems pop up.
I noticed:
1) I right clicked on the track( blank melody track) tried to put a custom midi style, asking BIAB to use an acoustic piano patch from the piano track.
2) After selecting those, BIAB decides on it's own to take the midi from the Drum Track instead of the Piano Track. Sometimes it will decide to take the midi from another track, not the Piano track I've selected.
OR 3) It will load the midi from the right track but it will pick a different patch: If I try to generate it on the Melody track, BIAB will decide to use a Vibes patch instead of the Acoustic Piano I selected -- IF I try to generate the custom midi on the soloist track, Biab will pick an Ocarina patch, even though I've selected an Acoustic Piano Patch.
It's maddingly inconsistent, that is the most frustrating part.
Also, I've noticed when trying to generate a Custom Midi Style on a track that the first time It is generated, if I solo the new midi track, BIAB will put a RED mute on all the other tracks, so when I UNSOLO the new midi track, BIAB will not automatically play the other tracks. The other tracks remain muted. I have to manually unmute each of them to hear them. But after I've done that manual unmute, if I again solo the new midi track, BIAB will put a Blue mute on all the other tracks so that when I UNSOLO the new midi track, the other track automatically unmute and can be heard.
I also earlier reported that it's impossible to insert Custom Midi Style on an existing track that has a RealTrack on it.
I hope PG Music can fix these problems. I frequently insert Custom midi bass or piano parts on songs. It's always worked pretty well, but with BIAB 2021, it's been a mess.
Thanks John for your detail, and I am certainly not surprised that I'm the only one facing these challenges. Yes, there is randomness when revisiting the MIDI Style Picker, which I also cannot figure out, and 'maddingly inconsistent' is an ideal phrase to use to describe this operation.
I have escalated the Style Picker item to the Developers and also emailed the issue to PG Music Support. I feel there are multiple operational issues with this functionality.

Hi John. Try unfreezing other tracks (not the track you wish to apply the Custom MIDI Style to) and then see if it works. Please let us know your results.
