Hi, I'm a newbie.

I have BIAB (Windows) 2021. Love it, and have a question about recording. I have been successful in creating a backing track and now want to add a guitar solo. I have done this. I see the "Audio" track listed in orange in the mixer window.

But I messed up one part of the solo and want to create a second track with the fix. I tried to do this and the second recording was added to the first.

I guess what I'm asking is what is the procedure for doing this? I must be missing a step somewhere and don't see anything about this in the instruction manual.

I learned how to use Audacity a few months ago. In that program I was able to import a backing track and then add a completely separate solo track. If I made a mistake, I could edit out the bad section, and start recording again from that point in the song with a new track. Essentially I assembled a couple of separate solo tracks to create the entire solo. Does BIAB work the same way or is the procedure different? Thanks in advance.

Tom

When I get to this level of recording (needing multiple recorded audio tracks)
I move the project to Realband (it comes with your BiaB program if on Windows).

Then I can more intuitively record additional tracks and Edit those tracks as needed.
In RB you have 48 tracks to record audio to, so fixing a section is easier for me.

Just record it on a different track and cut out what you don't want on the other (original) track
Just a suggestion in adapting your workflow ..

Open the Biab file in RB
Record additional tracks .. save as SEQ file

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

So one day later, I'm happy to report that I figured this out. It's easier than I thought. Duh.

So problem solved. Recordings in progress....

I don't use Real Band for recording. I use it to generate more real tracks than what the BB style has in it.

I use Sonar as my DAW for recording. You might have figured this out or not.... but in some DAW's and honestly I don't know if RB has this or not or how easy it is to use if it's in RB.... but.... In Sonar, I simply highlight the area around the mistake, and use the punch in/punch out function to fix just the mistake. I delete the mistake and the recorder turns on and off automatically as I play that part.

Yeah... don't be afraid to ask questions. Lots of experience in this forum on recording and how to do it the best way.

I have the exact same function in Studio One Pro 5.

According to the docs RealBand does have punch in and out. In RealBand's launch help window type in punch and you will see those docs.

Note that I do not use RealBand so I do not know anything else about its punch in and out capabilities.

Whenever I get something stuck in the back of my throat, I dislodge it by drinking a beer.
It's called the Heineken Maneuver.
