New tune from me. I recorded this one late at night, trying not to wake up the neighbours, so only God knows how the mix ended up! ;-) (I know, right?). I did try my best, the following morning, to fix things (to be fair), so ...

In any case, here it is ... hope you like the intention of it, at least, haha. Thanks so much, as always, for listening and for any comments!

PURELY FOR MYSELF

I'm just a man,
No shining star,
I'm not someone who plays with hearts
Just so, for fun ...

My life's a mess ...
Whose isn't so?
But I won't change just because
You want me to ...

Trying hard in life, with endless fails,
To find that one person whom with life to share
And, as I get closer for my time to end
There's just this question driving me round the bend ...

Trying hard in life, with endless fails,
To find that one person who th' same river sails,
And, as I get closer for my life to shelve,
Will she ever love me purely for myself?

You know, I'm kind
I'm one who cares
I just won't fight an endless fight
Just so, for dares ...

And I am good
I know my soul
And yet I wonder whether it's enough
To meet a girl ...

Your song had a bit of a wistfulness to it, and I think that was further enhanced by the lyrics. The almost whispery tone to the vocals really enhances that sense of near melancholy. Great job, and thanks for sharing!

This is a startlingly intimate piece of music. If your lyrics are an indication of the degree of personal honesty you are capable of, then you are a courageous man! Sounds like you're exposing your sensitive heart fully. The music you composed to accompany your lyrics is wistful and reflective. The fact that you found it necessary to lower the volume of your singing voice while recording the vocal track had the unintentional effect of making the message in your lyrics sound heartbreakingly urgent. I think it may be only a matter of time before the song falls on the 'right' ears to make your dream come true.

The track works well. I can relate to the constraints of trying to sing and not wake anyone up! sick

Your phrasing is good and musical.

I've never heard "life to shelve" - it's an interesting turn of phrase.

It's not really important, but I'll mention it anyway: There's an unexpected change in POV from the beginning, where the singer is speaking directly to the listener in the first person:

But I won't change just because
You want me to ...

and then sings this question to... who?

And yet I wonder whether it's enough
To meet a girl ...

Then again, breaking "rules" is pretty much what music is all about. After all, you aren't writing a term paper! whistle

Nice work - I enjoyed the song. smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Oh wow. So many listens in less than a day - thank you!

Rob: thank you. Good to hear that the productions seems ok! Thanks for giving it a whirl!

Ember: thanks so much for your perceptive comments. The whisper, as bluage notes, was a little unintentional ... but it seems to have worked anyway, haha. Thank YOU so much for listening!

bluage: especially in music, I often (not always, haha) find that, if one doesn't expose one's heart at least in the majority of it, if not all - then the song doesn't always carry. I say "not always" because there are people who do just fine without that ... I don't really seem to be one of them. But that may be just me, haha. Anyway, thank you so much for your insightful comments! let's see if "the dream" does come true - who knows, miracles have happened before ;-) Thanks for listening!!!

David: thanks for yet another thorough and perceptive review. "Life to shelve" was kinda forced on me by needing to rhyme, non-negotiably so, with "myself", here. Yes, it's kinda forced, but, for the life of me I could not find a better rhyme, haha! As for the "You" apparent change of POV, well ... the "You" was meant to be a general "You". A better fit, grammatically, would have been "But I won't change just because / ONE wants me to". I just thought that that would sound far too contrived, so I wrote "You", instead - that's all. I was worried, justly so it seems, that it would not work so well, but ... in the absence of a better idea, I think I'll leave it like that, for now at least! Thanks so much for listening - it's always a joy to read one of your reviews, because they always show that you've listened to the song in depth and have come up with insightful, practical feedback!!! Glad you enjoyed it, therefore :-)

James,
Your recording decibel limits probably made the vocal more intimate- we are invited into your thoughts and the result is an enjoyable, vulnerable song.

Thank you, everyone, so much. You are all far, far too kind.

Robert: if that's ok, I will PM you about the platform I now use for my songs. It feels somehow wrong to write about it publicly here? :-)

EDIT: Robert, you have a Private Message :-)

Your voice has a very nice low vulnerable tone and you have mixed it excellently with the band so that the message is very clear. Nice chording reflects the very personal sounding story, which is also easy to relate to ("endless fails", "no shining star"). I like the "life to shelve" part, it has sincere irrevocability.

Janne: thank you. "Sincere irrevocability" is kind of what I was trying to go for, so I'm really glad that it seems to have worked. Thanks!

Hi musician17

I like this reflection on a course of life. Your voice harmonizes perfectly with your musical arrangement. It's very intimate with a voice very present in its intonations. Well done.

Very emotive in the lyric and delivery.

Also the interesting progression and choice of RT's are very effective.

A bonus was reading your and David's discussion smile
