Hi there
I have seen a few posts regarding USB units not working but none for the Audiphole 1.5TB set up.
My upgrade arrived on 20 December and I installed the software to my HD leaving the Real Tracks and Drums on the USB drive.
No problems with this except the plug on the power block supplied is not compatible with this region... An adapter solved this problem.
Less than twently four hours later the blue light on the front of the USB starts flashing and the drive is no longer recognised leaving me with no Real Tracks or Real Drums.
I've tried to connect with all available USB ports and the problem persists.
I've contact PG Music support but wonder if there might be some clever BIAB expert who can think of a solution for this.
Probably have to return the unit, but that will mean another long wait.
Many thanks in advance for your advice.

That's too bad, Mark. My 1.5 TB drive has been running for several days without a problem. I installed it the same way you did.

Was the drive on, and working, and then it stopped working?

Did PG support say what the flashing blue light means for this model?

I assume you rebooted and tried it again.

There is an obscure Windows problem if one uses too many USB devices, not at once, but over time. Have you plugged lots of devices in during the life of this machine, and plugged the same device to different ports? If so, write back and I'll give you something to try.

Hi Matt,
"Was the drive on, and working, and then it stopped working?"
Yes, the blue light was permanently on and then it started flashing and the drive disappeared,
"Did PG support say what the flashing blue light means for this model? "
PG support haven't replied yet
"I assume you rebooted and tried it again."
Yes, I've rebooted and tried again.
"There is an obscure Windows problem if one uses too many USB devices, not at once, but over time. Have you plugged lots of devices in during the life of this machine, and plugged the same device to different ports? If so, write back and I'll give you something to try."
I've got lots of devices connected but I don't think that this is the problem... The intermittent light appears even when it isn't connected to the computer.
I really appreciate your help, Matt but I'm due to take the wife out for dinner and if I don't switch off right now, the USB drive won't be the only thing that's not working!
Many thanks again
Mark

Assuming that the drive itself is sound and that you are having a usb related problem, if you are using a Desktop computer and you have an empty bay and an available SATA hookup for the hard drive, the quickest and easiest solution is to pull the drive out of the usb enclosure and install it in your computer. The Band-in-a-Box Audiophile usb enclosure contains a 3.5 inch SATA Hatachi Drive.

If you turn the enclosure upside down and look on the front end, there is a single screw to remove. Take that out and the enclosure will flip open. Inside, there is one more screw to remove on the top of the drive rail (right in the middle). Take that out, then flip the black lever and the drive will pop right out. Take the drive and put it in an empty bay in your desktop and hook up the power and data cables and you are are ready to go. If the drive doesn't work at that point, at least you have identified the problem as being the hard drive and not the enclosure or your usb ports. If it does work you have avoided having to send the unit back.

Alternatively you could get an eSATA card and an eSATA enclosure and put the drive in that. That was my solution. I've had lots of problems with my usb drives under Vista and Windows 7 (not just BIAB's hard drives) so the eSATA solution was something that I already had in place.

Matt, considering the problems that I've been having with my usb devices, I like to hear about the solution that addresses lots of usb connections to different ports over time.

Keith, I might just mount my drive in my PC. That would eliminate the fan noise of the enclosure. Good idea.

Here are the steps, for anyone interested in taking a look at unused USB device drivers. You might be surprised, as I was, how many there are.

To make Device Manager show devices that are not currently used:

RUN

CMD

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

devmgmt.msc

View, Show Hidden Devices

maximize the USB entries

icons for devices not currently connected are pale; examine each

right click, Uninstall (for those you know you no longer need)

EXIT

Hi Matt, Keith,
My computer is a laptop so removing the drive won't work.
I've tried your trick with the device manager and I can see nothing that seems a problem... The number of USB devices is the same whether I show hidden devices or not.
I've just switched on the drive without connecting the usb and I'm still getting the flashing light. The drive isn't turning and the fan isn't working.
I fear I've just got a faulty unit. Looks like I'll just have to wait for a reply from PG support.
THanks to both for your help
Mark
