Long story short: if you're interested in Realtracks do you pretty much need the 3,100 package, or would you really be able to work (not just test the waters) with a "RealCombo" package of Pro/MegaPack?

The Pro RealCombos include some RealTrack instruments, which are also found in the RealTrack Sets. If you want all of our RealTracks, then the UltraPAk or higher is recommended, since these PAKs include all of the RealTrak Sets for the current version year. You could also purchase the Pro or MegaPAk and then purchase individual Realtrack Sets for $29 USD each. But that can't be $29 x 3,100 to buy all the Realtracks sets, a set must have some number of them?
So if you start with the Pro set of RealCombo's, how many of the $29 packages would it take to complete the 3,100?
Thanks for the details, but still I'm hoping for a real user to user insight to answer to question "if using Realtracks essentially means getting the entire set"
Finally, I have found a cool signature with sufficiently dry humor.

Your wish is granted. But you already know the answer even without doing the Math. A large number of us long ago recognized the great diversity of RTs and the value of having the full package. I have never heard any user extol the merits of having the limited packages. On the other hand, many over the years, have recognized that the RT's are the secret sauce in BIAB which makes it a one of a kind music making application. From those of us who know, buy as much as you can and do it during the annual sale is our best recommendation.

Each set does include multiple RealTracks. However there are 375 sets. 375 sets @ $29 each = a cost of $10,875. If your goal is to have all the RealTracks, purchasing RealTrack sets is not as cost effective as purchasing the UltraPAK.
Whatever content you presently own will also be included in the UltraPAK. You've been a forum member since 2005. What year and package do you presently use?
For someone returning to Band-in-a-Box after a long absence, or a first time user, the ProPAK in particular and MegaPAK generally allow a user to learn how to use the program without breaking the bank. Because it's easy to become overwhelmed with choices and frustrated when you are trying to learn both the program and the content I'm a believer in starting with the ProPAK and later upgrading to the UltraPAK.
The programs are the same in all the packages. Both the Audiophile and UltraPAK packages include all package content. The Audiophile have both lossless (WAV or AIF) and lossy (WMA or MP4) audio files. The UltraPAK has lossy audio files. The MegaPAK has about 1/3rd the lossy files compared to the UltraPAK. The ProPAK has about 1/10th the lossy files compared to the UltraPAK.

Bernard RealCombos are specific to the Pro and MegaPAKs; they include select instruments from the RealTrack Sets. Since you have the UltraPAK, this means you have all of the available RealTrack Sets for your version, and therefore the equivalent of all of the RealCombos that the smaller PAKs have.
