I'm looking for a way to take a long audio file (say 2 hours) and automatically split it into fixed length segments (say 2 minutes.)
This is MacOS, and I have BIAB, Logic Pro (which I know how to use, somewhat) and Audacity (which I don't.) I also have FFmpeg, which can probably do it with the right line commands, or if you have a GUI for it (which I don't.)
Googling the topic gets me a very long list of hits, most of which are dead links or obsolete software, so I thought I'd pop up here and ask.

In the past I have used this : http://audioslicer.sourceforge.netIt works on mp3 files, so you may have to convert your files to mp3 first, but it auto-splits the file at points of silence that it detects. I'm not sure if it can be set up to do the splits at fixed time intervals or not, but it seemed to work pretty well detecting silence for splitting whole albums that I recorded in one shot. Not affiliated in any way, just a user. Hopefully this helps ! - Jay

Thanks, Jay. I will look into that. For now, I'm going with FFmpeg, it lets you do this with fairly straightforward line commands, like this to grab 120 seconds at an offset of 360 seconds: ffmpeg -i big-input-file.m4a -ss 360 -t 120 -acodec copy small-output-file.mp4 https://www.ffmpeg.org

I think XLD might be able to do this, but I'm not certain as I don't have it with me here - either way it's a very handy program. You may also be able to make a cuesheet with a new "track" every couple minutes, fairly simple copy/paste there.
