I am experiencing a strange issue (I think since I upgraded to Win 7, but not sure there is a causal relationship) where my piano melody patches play marimbas, and xylophones and organ etc.... anything BUT pianos ...
Has anyone else seen anything like this ?? The pianos play fine on the piano track and soloist track. Just the melody is giving me issues. Any Ideas ?

Did you download and install the latest .pat files from the support area of the website?

Is there any other place to get them ?? They do not appear to have been updated in some time.

They do not need to be updated. The SD2 (which I have) has certain patches in it and you can choose them once the pat file is loaded.
There is no other way to do it.
If you want to duplicate the work, you can make your own patch maps, but they are done and work well.
Patch maps are static, there may be new sounds to download from Ketron in Italy, but I doubt it very much.
If I choose an organ and then press the plus sign I get all the family of related patches..whatever is in that SD2 box.
I don't have an sd4 cannot comment.

I am having the same issue in Real Band. If I take a tune, and give the melody to Acoustic Grand, I get vibes. If I change it to Bright, I get xylophone. If I choose HARMONICA I can get an acoustic piano ..
If I save the file as a MIDI and play it with Windows Media Player, the melody track is an Acoustic Piano, as it is supposed to be.
Does anyone know how to factory reset an SD4 ?? The manual is pretty weak on stuff like that.

So beside the drop down instrument box in the top left is a box. GM2
then

Check the plus sign, if you don't have the Ketron patches loaded and try and use the program it may not work. If you have the SD4 download the .pat file and when prompted after you press the + find the file. Then once loaded you should hear the right sounds.
If that + sign shows the Ketron patches, then you need to do a Factory reset and restart the computer and I'm unsure how you use the Ketron but ensure that the light is flashing and the sounds are actually coming from there. Headphones make that task easier.
I have hooked my Ketron to 3 different computers using Band in a Box and had no problem with any of them, but then again I've been using the program for a very long time, just 2 or 5 hours a day. Or more...

I've been using Band in A Box since version 1 for DOS. I am pretty familiar with most aspects of the program and I know how to use .pat files. My issue is that the first 5-6 instruments are not mapping correctly specifically to the Ketron SD4. They (patches) work fine on the VSC.
Ketron is an Italian company and offers VERY limited support for its products in the U.S. Even finding their editor required traversing their Italian site.
The fact that a RAW MIDI file (created with BIAB) plays fine, but my issues are with PG programs that there must be something specific to do with their interaction.

SD2 and SD4 perform a full reset every time the power switch is cycled.
From the sound of it, you have a rogue Upper Bank command in the MIDI files.
To get the GM bank out of the Ketrons, all you have to do is turn off MSB such that they are at zero for each patch send. LSB doesn't matter as the Ketron does not use it and will ignore any number there. The three Upper Banks available for both synths are MSB values of 1, 2, and 10.
Use of the Patchmap makes the task much easier, allowing you to pick Patches by name or by groups, for instance, all available pianos or all available saxes, etc.
SD4, which is sitting here on my desk and has been purring along with BiaB 2010 since the first beta release, uses the exact same Patchmap as publiched on the PGMusic page for the SD2. Just make sure that BiaB is addressing the MIDIFILE input and not the VOICE input. (The MIDIFILE synth is identical to the SD-2)

I just changed the default Melody channel, and it works fine now... Thanks for the tips.
