Santa says I've been good this year! Been thinking about in-ear monitors.
Been looking at those below $200. Looked at Sennheiser, ATH, Mackie, Shure, Westone. Took at look at some of the chinese imports...not too impressed.
Probably wired...heard that wireless introduces some lag.
Single drivers, multiple drivers, dynamic speakers, balanced armature...can anybody make some sense of this and steer me in a possible direction?

I use WAVS dual driver. About $160 and they make them from scans of your ears. Mine fit perfectly and they sound fantastic.

Jeff. i'm at the point of giving up finding decent budget iem's. ive been looking for a couple of years now. hence (see sslecta above) my request last year and this for recommends. it seems ya gotta pay big bucks for decent iem's. those WAVS that eddie recommends look nice but outside my budget. look at the you tube reviews also jeff.
luckily i have 2 sets of sennheiser iem's bought 10 yrs ago, ive been getting by with that i like...but i just dont know how long they might last. sadly senn dont seem to make them now.
good luck on your search. om ps i dunno if these are any good search kz earbuds on amazon

Just FYI, you need to make the division between the actual pieces in your ears and the tx/rx units that make them work. The transmitter would be the source of any lag. I use a Galaxy Audio tx/rx and the WAVS IEMs and my system works fine. A cheap tx/rx unit CAN work but your range will suffer. My Galaxy was only $200 and I can get 40 feet from the transmitter before it starts to cut out. Our guitar player has a Shure and he can go further. One time this year my battery went dead so I quickly took the cable from my receiver pack and plugged it into the transmitter's headphone jack. It got me through the set until I could change batteries. You didn't say if you have the tx/rx equipment and just need the ear pieces. If you don't, Santa may frown a little...

I think Eddie knows where I'm coming from. I not looking to mix my songs...I'm playing live and was thinking of using real in-ear monitors...not earbuds. We're using a single EV 30M vertical array speaker. It's off to one side and somewhat forward of where I sit.
We're not using wireless TX/RX but are hard wired into a Focusrite audio interface headphones out.
From what I've read, it seems the Shure SE215 are the standards for live use, but have been looking at others:
Westone AM pro 10 Sennheiser IE 100 Pro Mackie MP 120 Mackie MP 220 Audio Technica ATH-E40 Audio-Technica ATH-E50
Must admit, don't know much about any of them but it seems like a better solution than monitor wedges.
Thoughts?
Jeff

How many of you are in that "we"? I am in a 10 piece band. For a duo. Yeah come off the interface. Not for us.

Ah. Then you don't have to mix a bunch of stuff like a bigger band does. With us we end up with 10 different mixes in the monitors. For a duo yea, out of the interface to a headphone break out box and into your ears. Whatever you buy, absolutely get form fitting. They make a huge difference.

I was Westone’s only engineer for 5 years. I am buddies with the twin Cartwright brothers that pretty much invented the idea of them, over the ear wiring for earphones, use of balanced armature drivers for music earphones (developed for hearing aids), etc.
There are so many options these days. It’s hard to make a general recommendation.
